Not being a shareholder why would I know this?
Because the decision to allow VESA to increase their shareholding to over 25% was in the news. When/if they get to 30% it would trigger a takeover.
A takeover of the business will probably effect the workforce and not just the shareholders.
It may well be what is driving this current dispute.
Sometimes it is good to look up and see what is coming.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

His next aquisition will be GLS now the government have given him the green light.

That will take his share to a controling stake of 30% in Royal Mail,
He will then have to approach the share holders with a take over bid of the company paying at least the highest share price over the previous 12 months. This is why the share price is being deliberately kept low.

Czech Mate

People need to realise all the pointers show this is what the dispute is really about. VESA will be reluctant to aquire a controling interest with a company that has trade uniion representation. Simon Thompson has been put in place to smash the CWU by whatever means it takes. He will have the full support of the board of directors, and in my opinion, Ofcom as well
WOW never thought of that.

The rules are that the bidder must offer at least the highest price paid for any block of shares they have bought in the previous 12 months. They can offer more, but not less, than that.

RNS earlier shows VESA increasing there stake with the purchase of another 11 million shares (approximately). Now up to over 23% holding.
RM is massively undervalued atm im suprised more are not taking advantage , the price will recover given enough time and things are back to normal

This is what i have been saying , people saying 'simon thompson is a awful ceo and running RM in to the ground' are failing to see the bigger picture. Simon is a fall guy CEO its obvious as you can see from his past. Fall guy CEOs are a thing and he seems good at it tbh , its not him doing this its the shareholders and people at the top

Vesa still want more.....and always will! There is never a point where enough is enough for these types of people. Williams & Shapps seem hell bent on letting them take whatever they want.

Do not pass go and do not collect £200 (million)! Know what I mean. 😆

Glad people are finally seeing the real battle going on for the ownership and break up of Royal Mail, Thompson has a track record for slash and burn, taking the parcels to either Parcelforce or the International mob - leaving the remains to be renationalised, which won't be great 😥 always felt this was a ticking 💣 Fear the financial year figures could be a massive and final piece of the jigsaw.

I'm keeping hold of my shares.

Am of the opinion once the aquisition of GLS with VESA has been made public, the shares will double in price, then sold for a quick profit. Classic pump and dump

Then Royal Mail will not be able to fulfill its obligations with the USO so repealed in some way. Royal Mail taken back into public ownership and remaining shareholders compensated like with Rail Track.

The Government will then break up Royal Mail into seperate companies for the highest bidder, such as Mail Centre, VOC and delivery units. Royal Mail will then cease to exist.
If VESA are still increasing their shareholding in IDS surely they eventually intend making an offer for the entire company not just GLS? Not sure why ST is trying to crush the CWU, is it just to force down the share price or VESA don't want to mount a take over whilst RM is still controlled by the union, if it's the latter then it seem VESA have no intention of offloading RM if they take over IDS. If VESA do make a takeover approach ST will have done a brilliant job of helping them purchase it on the cheap by forcing down the share price.

Surely forcing down the share price is a crime! It would be deliberate market manipulation which is surely illegal no?

Well he is doing the bidding by crashing the share price so others can acquire shares at cheep rates how he does this is a reputational and also by disrupting the income of the company by means of prevoloking the workforce and use of the media and creating disharmony.
This will drive the price down but the intrinsic value will still remain it is a case for investigation that we should all push for once a sale is done as we cannot make that case just yet!
