Update on discussions with CWU

As you may have seen in our post last week, we made contact with the CWU and Acas on Friday to arrange meetings designed to avoid strike action this week.

As part of our correspondence with the CWU at the start of last week, both Royal Mail and the CWU exchanged potential joint statements. These would be used in the event that the CWU agrees to call off strike action planned for this week (23rd and 24th December) and commits to further talks to resolve the dispute. Unfortunately, we could not reach agreement on the joint statements as the demands from the CWU were unachievable.

The CWU has today sent us an almost identical joint statement as a condition to call off the strikes this week. We have been transparent with the CWU both last week, and earlier today, that the joint statements they proposed on 12th and 20th December are neither affordable or achievable, nothing has changed in that respect. The joint statement from the CWU once again seeks more pay, but does not include the changes that are needed to pay for the increased pay.

We have followed up again today – see our letter here (https://www.myroyalmail.com/sites/defau ... 20Fi27.pdf) - and are hopeful that a meeting will be arranged for tomorrow.

We urge the CWU to come to those talks with a genuine desire to call off the strikes, and we look forward to hearing what they have to say.

However, based on the lack of progress in talks to date it is imperative that we continue to focus all of our efforts on ensuring that we are delivering Christmas for our customers. So all contingency activity must go ahead, and we thank all the non-operational managers who are dedicating their time this week to help deliver the Christmas post.

So what I get from this is royal mail won't,

1.stop executive action
2.stop employing new recruits on different pay
3. Won't commit to no more than 25% owner drivers in parcel force
4.wont commit to no owner drivers in royal mail.
5.Won't allow the union to be apart of the revision process
6.wont back date the pay offer to when it should have been received in April.

Looks like it's another 6 months of strikes then!

They have probably already agreed to them knowing how this negotiation has gone!!!

No, I was once prepared for that however.
My experience with Royal Mail over the last 15 years is totally negative.
Unpaid for overtime, cherry picking agreements, bullying and harassment rife.
Nepotism rife.
Far too many Managers getting away with behaviour that would not be tolerated in any other company/ industry and they smugly laugh and applaud each other.

Management are totally morally bankrupt within this company .

i think the reply is to justify to the media that they are still willing to talk even though they've rejected our olive branch. albeit a piss poor reply and outright blatant statement that they are taking absolutely f**k all off the table. they are a shambles, a disgrace, and the whole board are out of their depth on this dispute.

We don’t need to go on strike,walks in my office have frames full with over a weeks post in and 16 trays and counting stacked up,and every spare space in the office filled with cages full to the brim and still it comes, it’s going to take months to catch up, people will be getting birthday Christmas cards long after the event, Royal Mail are taking money for a service they are not providing and should be investigated where’s the postal watch dog and what exactly are they watching
