I wouldn't be surprised if they are making a profit when we are off as they are running a 2 or 3 day service for mail right now - it's exactly what they want. A 2 or 3 day letter service and they only have to pay us for 3 days this week. Meanwhile parcels get cleared by their agency staff and their mums.

Can anyone explain why Simon didn’t accepted the proposal and then just bungle any agreement in January? It would’ve spelled the end of the union if the strikes were cancelled at Xmas then restarted next year. Why hasn’t Thompson taken this opportunity?

I think it confirms that RM don't want any sort of decent settlement and they're prepared to take the financial loss to try and force their agenda through.
The union really need to announce more strike days as soon as possible.

Why settle for crumbs when you can have the whole slice? That's what Thompson will be thinking.

No union should ever call off strike action unless the employer has made a vastly improved offer.

Because they've already written off this Christmas as a failure and they disagree with your assessment of what might have happened if the strikes had been called off then resumed in January? Because whatever happens, Thompson and Williams will walk away richer than when they joined?

We all knew that it would be rejected. ST is being paid to do what he’s doing and has been given the means to do what he wants to get the outcome that the board want. They are going to destroy the job and the company to make money. Ask yourselves, why haven’t RM backed down at Xmas? The time where they make the most money and can balance the books. I fear for what January brings, whatever that is, will not be good for us.

We asked for a commitment of no compulsory redundancies, a separate agreement on site closures , standing down agency , no increase in owner drivers and no new recruits on inferior terms.

We ask for the revision proposals to be negotiated and subject to the DRP process .

On pay that they commit to an exit rate of 9% which means that the 2% lump sum would have to be consolidated. The 3.5% backdated to April.

A commitment to no abandoning the am delivery period which means they would have to move on the 3 buckets of later starts.

An amnesty For those reps and members suspended with an agreed process.

Finally a commitment of no executive action whist talks progress on outstanding issues.

If Royal Mail agreed these then this are fundamental issues of the dispute and we would need to consider the action we have announced but they have rejected it because the issues above are fundamental to their plans.

The union already said that a commitment to no compulsory redundancies means nothing unless it forms part of an agreement

So why does it matter if it was included in a joint statement that wasn’t an agreement?

None of it means anything if it’s just part of a joint statement and not an agreement surely
