Are professional drivers required to work on bank holidays if asked ?

Bank Holiday
Bank Holidays will become normal working days for the purposes of this agreement. Where a driver is required to attend during a Bank Holiday a day will be added to that employee's annual leave entitlement to be taken under current arrangements where authorised in line with operational requirements.

I found this online, taken from the national agreement fir professional drivers in RM.

They normally ignore or rip up national agreements so we should do the same.

Im a Network Driver and this looks like a local agreement. Under PDA we are contracted to work BH. Our office works on the voluntary basis. I.e volunteer for OT and submit your duty preferences and you only work 1 of them. Choose to not and you run the risk of maybe getting the day off or being sent down to PRDC.

What is alarming regarding the letter is that even local they have seemingly ripped up the Christmas agreement. But what is more alarming is how many Postmans arses fell out at the thought. Know your contract ffs !!!

According to bbc 51% of public support the Royal Mail strikes. It was 54% in October.
So basically half.

This is why the PR assault now with both Royal Mail and CWU is key. If we lose the public support any more it’ll be a blame game.

Royal Mail haven’t cared about what the public think for the last 6 months of the dispute, i think public support is irrelevant these days .

We're not losing public support.

Just about every customer I had come to the door this morning told me that they were supporting us. Same on the picket line, the amount of teas, coffees, chocolate etc that the public are giving us is surprising. Especially this close to Christmas.

I only remember one customer getting a bit stroppy with us last Thursday. She came in yesterday and apologised, gave us a box of Quality Street.

We are supported, up here at least.

In RM parlance the "customer" is the one paying for not receiving the item.

Agreed, but the receiving customer isn't paying RM so their support isn't particularly useful. Turning the dispute into a Gov/country issue was and is a mistake which isn't going to help individuals in RM. It's turned into a giant pixxxxx competition now not only against RM but also with other unions to see who gets the "best" settlement.
