For the hundredth time, people have the right to work what hours when they like, provided there is no ongoing industrial action at the time.

Until the CWU ballot for working to rule or other forms of action, that is the case.

And all the bickering, sniping and other nonsense only serves to cause further strife.

I absolutely agree, it is a pandemic in this company, worrying and bitching / back stabbing at what everyone else is doing, it's almost an illness for some, shame there isn't any cure for it other than growing up and getting a life.


We even had someone in our office who grassed to a line manager that a colleague was not doing van checks properly - just ticking the boxes on the PDA rather than actually checking, when said grass was clipping their seat belt in before leaving the office to stop the bleeping. Unbelievable.

I'm fairly, decisively and completely sat on the side of the "will never work a strike day, but will work overtime otherwise" camp, and frankly I think that's a fair approach. I both support my union and my co-workers, while minimising my personal loss.

I do not believe that helping RM catch up at an extreme cost of overtime and **reputational** loss is significantly impacting the strikes. It does lessen it, I won't disagree, but I don't think it come all that close to nullifying it at all.

I would love a reasonable deal to pop up tomorrow that we can accept and do a decent job of recovering a good chunk of 'Christmas' for our customers... But I'm also prepared to sit at the office entrance on xmas eve and tell everyone why I'm not working.

If Sunday working was only available because of the strikes then there might, with a strong emphasis on *might*, be a logical reason to be against it. But at this time of year Sunday working is by no means unusual.

People getting a few extra quid for work that really isn't putting a dent in things is no big issue.

I agree with what you're saying. I do a bit of Pressure OT but certainly less than normal since we're in "Strike Recovery Mode", which basically means please take out all the packets and as much mail as you can.

I have told my COM that I never bust my balls at Christmas and I'm definately not going to be doing it this Christmas.

Having said that my DO is coping pretty well at the moment compared to some of the horror stories you hear. I don't know if we've been lucky with the part of the pipeline we use, or if there's a Bloody Great Tidal Wave of backlogged mail heading our way! I'll wait and see.

In all honesty, I find it really bizarre when people are bitching and moaning about people breaking the strike saying how the strikes aren't working. Then, all the sudden come next day to do work that overall is done in less time on overtime. Hell, there was rows of the same guys throwing mail in the IPS as soon as I got back from my walk bang on my finish time too Hence why I've not really been going to the picket lines. It's the equivalent of virtue signalling, basically "hey look at me! I'm doing a good thing!" Screw it, I'll do it as long as I can hold out for (which isn't that long now). If it comes down to it, guess I've got a decision to make whether to leave this toxic environment or not.

Yes, join the ever growing number who can see that what is in front of your very eyes now is the FUTURE, and no matter what good things (if any) Dave Ward negotiates in this dispute - and I hope that he does - they will only last for around 12 months or so before it all kicks off again.

Life is far too short to put yourself through this hell day in day out, simply remember, in Royal Mail you are just an 8 digit number - nothing else. Many think that RM owes them an enormous debt of gratitude for what they do, but their simple take on it is "we pay, you do".

When you see so many institutionalised, long serving posties leaving the company, most of which who would in normal times have stayed until state pension age or even beyond, and almost without exception are all saying it is the best thing they ever did, it tells you all you need to know.

I agree with what you're saying in principle...... However there are a lot of variables to consider. To me the biggest would be finding a "Suitable" alternative. I know you can get a job in a supermarket stacking shelves for the same wages but it's not something I fancy. If you're in an area with a lot of employment choices it's going to be easier than perhaps more Rural Areas were choice is limited.

Good Luck to everyone that's moving on to better things .... but there's a lot more to it than simply saying, Tell them to stick their job and get another one.

Here's a crazy idea, just worry about yourself and not what others choose to do. Look after yourself and your family. The sooner you learn that you have no control over other people's actions the easier life becomes.

Our CWU union on our early shift at NDC, blatantly tells members who have crossed the picket line..naming them and calling them strike breakers. (Often they say everyone has individual circumstances)

They then work O.T on Saturday/Sunday themselves and I bet you they would have turned up tomorrow on the 27
