Initiating I H R

Post by roman »

Can anyone tell me how you kickstart applying for I’ll health retirement. Do you see your line/com manager first.Or is it best to look for advice from your union rep before you go any further.?

You need to go on the sick long-term and your manager may refer you to occupational health

You don't apply for IHR. Royal Mail will IHR you if you are too ill to do the job. They'll want you to speak to occupational health initially, who will request evidence of your ill health from your GP and/or consultant.

if you have a health condition that is stopping you doing the job, you should ask for refereral to OH. You don't need to be on long term sick to be considered for it.

not always the case, I know of someone who was off for the six months, after then had a telephone assessment & was IHR’d within days of speaking to OH, just one call was needed, OH emailed LM same day, LM emailed his gaffer & deal was done within days, this was around August this year

It's likely if he was off for six months that they already had documentary evidence about his health condition and didn't require it to proceed with IHR.

RM has suspended IHR & it's likely to be reinstated in April "23" . But it will be v/watered down version.... ie RM will recover all sick pay paid. etc, etc.

If IHR is something you want, and it's something you can back up with either a long term history or short term results from Doctor's etc then go for it. Be up front with both manager / OH that it's something you want and that it's your only option.

So M.W states RM have backed down on IHR. Is this applicable when a agreement is agreed with the CWU 🤔
