Not beyond my understanding but it’s not realistic. If inflation dropped miraculously next month to 1% we wouldn’t all be screaming for a 1% pay deal.
If inflation was 1% next year then a payrise of 1% next year would suffice, that's how inflation works.
If you're not keeping up with inflation then you're taking a pay cut, whilst Royal Mail and every other company would be increasing their charges accordingly.

I wonder then if it’s possible to strike a deal that changes every 6 months depending on inflation rates?

Exactly right , we need to take current inflation out of it slightly as that will eventually come down again.

Well that depends on the pay rise we end up with this year. The potential 1% inflation next year is on top of this year’s inflation. Its 1% on top of the already huge price increases this year. The prices wont drop.

I think it’s more important to have an increase based on minimum wage than inflation. It was only 5 years or so minimum wage was £7.20 or so. Now it’s £10.40.
Give it 5 more years and we will be close to minimum wage on that rate anyway.
At least we get a pay rise every April though…

Lol.

Yeah Like, an increase of, say, half the rate of inflation every 6 months? Sign me up!

If inflation is 10% this year all the prices will adjust to this years figures just because the figure drops to say 5% next year all that means is everything will rise a further 5% on top of the 10% prices will not come down so which ever way you look at royal mails pay offer you will be taking a massive pay cut.

Well I find it disingenuous that the person who runs the whole company cannot and will not sit down and talk well now we know the answer he has £1.7 billion reasons not too!

You are right the inflation rate will eventually drop but the prices will remain the same. Only difference is they won't be rising this fast any more. If you get well below inflation pay rise this year then your purchasing power will be weaker even if somehow inflation will drop to BOE target of 2%.

Anybody expecting to see a pint of lager at your local boozer to cost £3 again and petrol to come down to where it was before pandemic is deluded. It's not happening unless something serious will sharply slow down demand or there will be over supply of product. Neither are likely.

We need to be asking questions about the governance of this nation and challenge those who say everything is rosey and fine as rishi says we all know he has millions!
The fact is most have nothing like the wealth of this man and his minions we need our voice and opposition to this regime of terror up on working people of this land.
Last but not least we have come a long way from being press ganged and enslaved only to watch and see it in half a life time stay strong and keep up the fight!
