Amazon workers at a vast depot in Coventry are poised to go on strike in the new year, demanding pay of £15 an hour, after securing a historic yes vote in a ballot for industrial action.

The turnout was 63%, with 98% of those backing strike action, marking the first time Amazon workers in the UK have voted to do so.

That's what royalmail have got in to everyone's head competition it does not exist as everyone has seen when wee do not work the hole so called competition fall a part as they can't put there over flow in to the royalmail network so stay strong and together wee will win this fight

I think they are hailing it as a victory, as the company is known for its union busting tactics, and oppressive working regime. I think many attempts to unionise and vote for IA have been quashed, in the past. I don't think they would've got this result say... 6mth ago. And, I realise this is just one small branch in the whole country, but it's certainly a landmark moment in the history of Amazon in the UK. I think it just illustrates the strength of feeling within UK workers atm, and is possible the start of the ball rolling.

I posted this as competition, as we are repeatedly told that Amazon, DPD, Evri, etc... are just going to scoop up our customers. Just look in any Facebook or Twitter comments and you will see this. As far as I can see, this is a myth. RM has 30% of the parcel market. That is nearly the combined total of its next 3 competitors. Amazon have 12%, and is clearly cross-subsidised, RM are nearly 3 times that. There's no way competitors could step in and absorb that share overnight, they'd all have to nearly double their capacity. RM have that share cos they have a huge infrastructure, network and capacity, that's been built over 500yrs, using tax payers money. I get the impression, that in most people's heads, there is little difference in the market share, this is simply not the case.

So, now when u see Amazon are just gonna step in, you can respond with they're striking to.

Nice to see the GMB do not stab their agency workers in the back the same as the CWU.
Amazon do not directly recruit their staff. They use third party employment agencies.

Royal Mail must commit to prioritising the removal of all agency staff before voluntary redundancies take place and confirm they will not hire new entrants across the business to replace existing workers who decide to take voluntary redundancy.

So the real reason behind the taciturn approach the CWU has taken toward supporting those CWU members who work for Angard (A wholly owned RMG Company) becomes apparent.

They want RMG to commit to effectively depriving Angard staff of their employment and the means of earning a wage. Many Angard staff have worked in RM depots longer than direct hire RM staff, years most times Angard staff have in the main supported the IA and refused to cross picket lines much to their financial detriment in order to support their colleagues and friends yet here we have a Union blatantly stabbing fellow workers in the back.

I repeat fellow communication workers and CWU members who have supported the IA. An utterly shameful move from the CWU leadership is a thing that they consistently blame ST for doing. Utter Hypocrites.

Angard staff are now aware of the contempt that the CWU leadership has for them. Do not be surprised if many highly experienced Angard staff cross the picket line should this week's planned IA begin. Remember, these Angard staff are multi-skilled and can cover every aspect of the operation. Combine these skilled staff with the recent huge influx of 'seasonal staff', who probably will cross picket lines, then the planned effect of the IA may be decimated.

Also good luck with trying to convince pickets to talk their Angard colleagues out of crossing picket lines. I am sure the rank-and-file members will see how much of a hypocritical act this would be, especially as Dave Ward is on record advising workers working for the likes of Amazon to join a union. Why should they, Mr Ward? you'll just pocket their fees then stab them in the back.
