Why would we call off the strikes simply because they say that there won't be compulsory redundancies. The strikes are about an inflation based pay rise, no later finishes, no annualised hours, no commitment to deliver, no longer delivery spans, no attack on sick pay, no more owner-drivers, no recruits on worse terms and conditions.

When we get agreement on these points we can think about calling off the strikes.

So they promise there won’t be any compulsory redundancies but then state it won’t and doesn’t need to be written down in an agreement. Are they literally just f***ing with us at this point? Just promising something in an open letter means absolutely nothing. Ignoring the fact we are still way off of anything acceptable on the other issues the union better not call of the strikes just for this.
Hell even if it was written down and legally binding it means nothing to these vultures running the company.

If they are genuine about 'no compulsory redundancies' for the long term then there should be very little left to discuss... the rest of the agreement would need to be refined here and there....

So why do strikes need to be called off? - they could make an agreement before Wednesday or Thursday. They have Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and even up to Thursday to refine the agreement - only then - if the agreement is worth putting to us members - then the strikes can be called off.

If they want the strikes called off then they can meet for talks with the CWU and come up with a new and better offer in writing. Otherwise it's another tactic by them to get their way, not buying any of it.

Unless you get a legally binding agreement, then the strikes should go ahead. With all the communications from royal mail in past few months they cannot be trusted without it.

View this as a public relations stunt by RM. If they truly wanted to resolve this dispute they would have sat down with Dave and Andy and resolved this dispute long before now.

They have only given 'assurances ' on compulsory redundancy and temporary workers. Nothing has been mentioned about àny other issue eg owner drivers.
