Re: Just rang no sick pay
That'll make people want to work for this company, won't it?
Spite and malice, the hallmarks of Royal Mail management.
A dispicable bastard of a company, and the men and women who are behind this, a shower of total bastards.

RM have to pay you SSP no matter what, they cannot break the law. It doesn't matter a toss if we are in dispute, they may break the terms of your contract but even they cannot break the law. If he thinks he can, he is in for a rude awakening, the compensation would far outway anything else.

If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

I'd be going to the GP and saying it's all stressing me out, get signed off for a few weeks. Presumably you'd get paid for that. That'll teach them.

1st 3 days it is zero. We have contractural rights though. He cannot just break a contractural right and expect to get away with it, if you are genuinely sick as everyone is and you have a doctors certificate I think he is on the back foot here.

Just follow the procedure.
Inform the unit you will be taking sick leave in good time.
You need to produce a self certification note within a few days, not your first day of absence.
Whatever they tell you regarding not being paid for your absence, let them do it.
If they take money from you, it will be returned to you pretty soon as it is illegal. Don't bother arguing with anyone or getting upset.

Re: Just rang no sick pay
This may just be rogue managers trying to scare people in certain areas. Our area manager stated people who go sick will not be paid for strike days, when asked to put that in writing by our COM they refused point blank.

Senior HRBP Parcels (Not sure if relevant-a parcel person that is)
No, it hasn’t. RM sick pay has always been conditional on certain criteria and that remains the same; for example, that it must be necessary for genuine illness.
A manager has the discretion to determine whether it’s necessary and genuine in certain circumstances and always has had that discretion. It’s decided on a case-by-case basis, and that hasn't changed either.
Any questions relating to specific absences need to be raised with the COM / WAM / Line Manager who’s making the decision.
As I mentioned - any specifics need to be raised through your COM.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: Just rang no sick pay
I’ve been told it’s been cleared with HR not to pay sickness on strike days , don’t know if this is on an individual office basis or not but it is definitely happening.

Re: Just rang no sick pay
Fight fire with fire, tell your COM you want it in writing because you’re taking it to an employment tribunal and throw in a grievance too. See if the COM still stands by their decision. And if you have any annual leave still to take, remind him/her that you no longer agree to roll it over so you’ll need to take it before the end of the holiday year.
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.

You don't need a sick note for the first 6 days do you, it's only for the 7th day onwards?
