Again

If you could have afforded to have went on strike for longer in August and September you could have afforded to put money aside for these pressure period strikes that we all thought would be inevitable

You never
Disagree with inevitable, plenty of times Dave Ward has said, ‘we now have two weeks’ etc to discuss things before the next set of strikes, and yet here we are still going round in circles, months later.

The risk now is the company loses even more more money than it anticipated, (an extra 25m per strike day) those who can run off into the sunset with a respectable VR package and the remaining workers are left with a heavily indebted company and further attacks on terms and below inflation pay rises.

You lasted 8 days

We would have been out for more than 8 days over Aug Sep if the union did what you claim you wanted

So your argument doesn’t stand up sorry
You are struggling to understand.
One day strike in august means no backlog. Or very little. That means next to zero hours overtime available.
If they had said “instead of us having one day this week, one day the week after and one day the week after that we are going to do 3 days in one week…..”
That would have meant backlog. That means overtime. That means I could have clawed some of it back.

Instead we lost a days pay here and there with little opportunities to get it back in overtime.

Also, giving a 3 day strike (or even a 4 day strike) would have given postmen opportunities to look at other work for that week rather than just trying to look for an odd day here at an agency.

Instead, the union gave us one day strikes at a time of year when barely anyone noticed.

And I sleep very well thanks. I don’t feel guilt or shame for putting my family first. Plus I can afford the heating now so it’s nice and cosy!
Karmas a bitch
Your turn will come
What about the people I read about in the courier magazine who benefit from the various charity’s that are used to benefit the children of Royal Mail employees, various trusts, credit Union etc, the magazine is edited by the companies own posties, you gonna see them go without so you can pursue your game of chicken with Thompson and the board.

Of course the company is going to lose more money. They are making totally unreasonable demands of their workforce, so will have to accept ongoing industrial action and heavy losses as a result of those demands.

They have not moved on any of the things which are red lines for different individual employees. They still want staff to take a huge real terms pay cut. They still want longer deliveries which take a toll on the bodies of the PEOPLE working for them. They still want people to be out delivering in the dark in some of the roughest areas of the country. They still want people to "commit to deliver" so no definite finish time for people to build their lives outside of work around. They still want compulsory redundancies. They still want the union completely sidelined from any input to revisions and future changes.

If they get all of the above and defeat the workforce and their union then make no mistake that the above list is simply the start of far more attacks on our pay, terms and conditions in the future. We must make it too expensive for them to pursue this agenda against their own workforce.

Of course the strikes are going to hurt the company. There'd be no point in striking if they didn't.

I thought that too about the 1200.
We have people on 4 day weeks.
A 2 day strike, when it falls on their working days, costs them half a week's wages.
Yeah £119 lost each strike day.

By the way Mr Thompson, just how many Christmases have you done with RM. I'm on my 29th, never had a Christmas week at home with the family but always gave 100% during Christmas pressure, why, because we value our customers, we do not hold them to ransom as you suggest. We would all be out clearing the backlog if you came to your senses. I know, no chance of that.
