So Thompson will plead poverty as the reason to cull thousands of postal workers and then leave the remaining posties to clean up the mess. Making them work long days by clearing 1 and a half rounds until their knee caps explode and shoulders dislocate?

He'll then either keep it this way or come to the realisation it isn't working and top his workforce back up with cheap labour.

I think you're close, just no realisation involved. I think his plan is to replace the workforce on lesser terms and owner drivers. Like I said in a previous post, his vision is basically zero hour contract, owner drivers and statutory sick pay. He has no plan to make any use of the capacity and infrastructure this business has, over its competitors. Its a well established and trusted brand, its share of the parcel market is equal to the combined total of its next 3 competitors.

The CR question is a real interesting one. I've seen all kinds of information on here, that state the criteria that needs to be met, and it doesn't look as straight forward or basic. At the moment, I think it is a reality, in some form, that's being amplified as threat.

I am just trying my best to ignore any negative info that RM pump out at the moment due to it being detrimental to my (and to a certain extent my wife’s) mental health.

I’m usually a pretty happy go lucky person in general,but this dispute has started to take its toll.

Despite what a lot are saying the jobs market around my neck of the woods is pretty grim. The jobs are there,just bad hours & minimum wage. Firms that I have delivered to in the past & I have always considered half-decent employers paying just over minimum wage for permanent night staff - finishing at 8am,Saturday morn. No thanks.

My daughter is nearly 16 - she saw me browsing through jobs on the laptop the other day & questioned why I wanted to leave RM? I said I didn’t but filled her in,briefly in our dispute. Was quite touching actually,she got a bit upset as she has never known me do another job. Only seems like 2-mins since I was picking her up from nursery school in the old blue uniform…anyway…I’m rambling…

If its any consolation, it isnt as easy as they would like to think to make long serving employees compulsory redundant and it will be fought all the way

Excellent point. In fact you could go a step further and suggest that the only reason Royal Mail are able to hold out in these prolonged strikes is BECAUSE of the huge financial position they gained from our hard work during the lockdowns

I agree, it is infuriating. They're using the excess profits, from the pandemic, to claim the business is losing money. Just using the term 'losing £1m million a day' makes it sound like the business is operating in negative numbers. I don't think it is, as profits were £750 million or something, £1 million a day would mean they're losing £365 million a year. That's still £400 million profit, I think. Yet, I would reckon most people would say the business was in the red, if u asked them. I'm sure if my layman's point of view is wrong, it'll be corrected.
