We've just had 2 suspended for 'bringing back!'

That’s not right surely

It is wilful delay if you haven’t informed anyone. We’ve had two fired from our office for doing similarly.

In this climate? When most frames arent even going out at all?

Our office clears every day. One of the guys was on a warning for doing it previously.

Some offices seem to be running on a sack them however you can basis. Always tell them before you go out if your in doubt.

I think the problem is most people especially new starters don’t know the correct procedure regarding cutting off ( working to your time ) some people still assume we are still in the covid era where anything goes. Unfortunately a lot of people who don’t know the correct procedures are going to get caught out, if anyone isn’t sure they must see their CWU union reps to get clarification on this because trust me things are going to get ugly.

If someone has worked over their time in an office full of undelivered items, there's not a chance in hell they'll get conducted or sacked for leaving / bringing back mail. Whether they've followed procedure or not.

If they did, they'd have a field day at the tribunal.

There is a procedure, if people haven’t done this correctly then they leave themselves wide open. I totally understand what your getting at but giving them ammunition to take you down the conduct code even dismissal for not following it and relying on a tribunal to save your bacon, well that’s up to you.

Manager had us round and told us if you can't take everything your priorities are: Specials, tracked, oversized, undersized, D2D and then letters, if you have to leave anything leave the letters but not in the frame, leave them underneath.

Say to the COM you will do so, if they'll put that instruction in writing. If they have any sense, they'll get the instruction that they had from their boss to give you that instruction, in writing to cover their own ass. That way everyone's ass in the DO is covered if the s**t hit the fan

Just saying that in reality no manager would even bother with the hassle. If you've cleared your specials, packets, tracked etc, they won't care about half a shelf of mail or whatever.

Which, to be fair, is sensible management of the current situation.

In Delivery Offices nothing has ever EVER been written down since the Ten Commandments came down the Mountain!

Managers are just too bloody sly to put their name to anything that might be used against them. Try e-mailing them along the lines of ......."I acknowledge that during this mornings TEAM Huddle you told us all to prioritise Tracked Parcels at the expensive of other mail "........ you won't get a reply but at least you'll have a copy if nothing else.

How to hell does your office clear everyday??

Because our last revision was not an utter clusterfuck. We had a manager one foot out of the company so he didn’t listen to his upper manager and implemented rounds that were actually achievable, hence now we are one of the best performing units in the country and have it relatively good…for now.

Yes, we are prioritising but the managers and the regular helpers just estimates what we can reasonably achieve in a day and the rest is left. Mailsorts, letters arriving on second wave, non tracked or even later tracked are left... However, with folks willing to do some overtime and a non militant office, we tend to catch in 2 or 3 days.

Being a smaller office, the larger items and tracked 24 and generally parcels are given priority so that we have spaces to put left items and new arrivals.

Folks don't want a chaotic office - so, why are we really striking when we don't want a mess, we don't want to kill our employer and our jobs?

On way to work, I shall see how much was cleared by the Sunday volunteers and agencies? It might just be a good day today.

People are not harassed for bringing some mail back - they don't even need to know; we had already left some anyways.

This very one issue alone (mass daily failures and prioritising of certain types of mail, contrary to the USO regulations), should be fully loading the CWU's gun to fight back - but despite them being fully aware of it there has not been one mention by them??????

Very strange when you consider that this very issue affects all of their members!
