RO+N packets

Hi, bit of a request for help.

I've recently been put on parcel runs for 3 walks during all this madness. I've never had to do this before and was looking to see how everyone else does it and the best way of doing it using RO+N.

I've done a few Sunday parcel deliveries using the RO+N but it's always been pre loaded by a manager.

Handy when you're out of your usual delivery area. You can click on any parcel on the PDA and hit the navigate button. This allows you to make changes to delivery order.

Inside my usual area, the order wasn't to my liking, but I was able to go in the order I wanted and the hardest part was finding the parcel scrolling down on the PDA. You don't scan on delivery, just click on address attended button and then deliver to customer or safeplace etc. as normal.

Overall, good if you don't know the area and it was 90% accurate to the correct door each time. But for my usual delivery areas I wouldn't bother with it.

Oh, and it tried to take me the wrong way down a one way street, but that was the only major fault.

When you load the van, do you number them or just put them in?

That depends on how many parcels you've got to deliver, it's 50+ it's easier to number them just in case they managed to slide around the van and get out of order.

Even if you know the route you may as well now let RON guide you, as nobody is getting rewarded for rushing around.

Although we're recently been told we must all use RON as otherwise the business apparently can't check the number of parcels being delivered by each DO.

I do normally Sunday i just number tham and try to put in order take your time while loding, organize we'll make easy for you later

You can always use a app called circuit. Although it’a only free for first 2 weeks it is a really good app for delivering when you have tons of parcels all over the place, can scan the addresses in with your camera and it optimises the route. Agency staff use it in my office.

To use RO+N do you need a special route header scanned in? As I did LATs in another office worked fine but tried using it for my own round just to try it out again and it wouldn’t work.

How do you prevent parcels from moving all over the place in the van?

I'd put them in sacks or boxes relative to each street and just tip the parcels out for the next street before going there, finding the first parcels at the start of that street and bobs your uncle - go from there. Stops everything getting mixed up.

Always, always worth spending an extra 20 mins if thats what it takes, number pkts. Either scroll and number pkts or pick a pkt and scroll to find it then number. Whack in van in order and makes it so much easier. Don't be tempted to rush to get on the road.

Ron on the PDA is actually pretty good, the GPS is very accurate now.

The RON app has a van loading feature. You suggest how many sections you want to split your load into (I.e separated into sacks or some other way of dividing - RM really need to invest in load dividers!).
After doing the optimisation, Take all the parcels to your van and scan them (again) as you place them into your van and the app will tell you for example Section C, position 43.

I’ve only used it once and I had separated my “sections” with trays. Worked out quite well.

Drive slower and avoid harsh braking seems the obvious answer? Also put a cardboard york sleeve under the parcels.

It's mystifying why agency staff don't now use RON given it's not fairly accurate at finding even named rural properties.
