It appears that strategy & plan of Thompson & the board in re-sizing company numbers is massively dependant upon the USO getting reduced. That's why they keep badgering the govt to reduce it. If they don't succeed then their Titanic plan may have just hit a major iceberg! We all hope he's starting to feel that sinking feeling

Well I am sure he has mates in high places in this government and will push for the regulation change but as I have said the whole government is still trying to extricate from the EU!parforthewalk wrote: ↑04 Dec 2022, 13:36It appears that strategy & plan of Thompson & the board in re-sizing company numbers is massively dependant upon the USO getting reduced. Did Simon Thompson not nearly fail last years Christmas plans, due to refusing to sanctioning the hiring of enough vans for the pressure period, and had to step back and allow local managers to try and get something fixed up at local level.
He got away with that ... just and thinks he is the brains behind a successful business plan.
I started in the job many, many years ago when there where 2 deliveries.
The first delivery had enough letters and a few packets to fill one wallet and maybe a drop off bag in a safe place / drop off box.
The second delivery was easy and you had maybe half a wallet to take out but the business still made a profit for the government.
Now, you can't look at a delivery without a van to take the mail around in, you have to prioritise what has to be done and still have to struggle to finish but we are being told the mail is falling and the company is losing £1m a day......
If we are failing in the business now then it definitively isn't the worker on the coal face who are failing, it is the ones in the suites above but we will be expected to carry the can with job cuts.

Someone on a thread on Digital Spy, who sounds like they had some inside knowledge of the man, wrote this about Simon Thompson on a thread about his involvement with the government's Covid-19 trace and trace app, before he was appointed as Royal Mail CEO. One of Simon Thompson's executive appointments was at Apple:
"OH MY GOD! That guy’s involved? It all becomes clear all of sudden. He’s famously regarded as being about the worst executive in Apple’s history. And this a company that a previous CEO had about 10 minutes from disappearing down the plug hole that is now literally worth a trillion dollars."

thompson did fail christmas last year due to railroading failed revisions in and yet again he will fail christmas this year , so i cannot believe the money he has wasted and lost due to his piss poor management skills , but yet he still has a jobCeltic warrior wrote: ↑04 Dec 2022, 13:55Did Simon Thompson not nearly fail last years Christmas plans, due to refusing to sanctioning the hiring of enough vans for the pressure period, and had to step back and allow local managers to try and get something fixed up at local level.

Same here , over 37 years service and it is truly depressing to see what the board have done not only to the company but also to the public . Not sure if I’ll get it but I have put my name down for VR , I just don’t want to be around to watch a once great company that I’ve devoted my life too be destroyed.walthmstowman wrote: ↑04 Dec 2022, 12:27Thank you Simon for a brand new experience . I can honestly say in all my years service ( over 35 ) I never dream't for one second we would ever be on strike in December . It's incredible . Well done Simon, you plank !

That was a strange one, as he seemed to take the blame only to then reappear a few months later in a similar role at GLS!!postieblueshirt wrote: ↑04 Dec 2022, 14:55did achim dunwald not take the hit for the vans last year?think he got moved to gls.

In answer to the opening post , absolutely . Then again what did we expect from a man who's failed wherever he's been .

32yrs, here. Just reading those posts got me thinking to back when I first started and was on deliveries. It's like imagining a time when I worked for a different employer. Whenever I told people who I worked for I'd always get this response, "Well done, you've a job for life there."Corey wrote: ↑04 Dec 2022, 15:25Same here , over 37 years service and it is truly depressing to see what the board have done not only to the company but also to the public . And the Tories and Labour MP's sit back and watch the destruction of royal mail and the destruction of small business.

Since I have worked at RM, I have never seen the like of this situation we have right now. We always knuckle down to get mail through the system and on to the customer...doing what is necessary to provide a good service to our customers.
Simon Thompson chose to steer RM into this situation. This man's CV of disasters should have been a red flag to any potential employer. Frank Spencer springs to mind. Now we are where we are.
What a crying shame.

I know it’s also the board to blame but Simon Thompson is going down as our worse ever CEO .
