we currently have the worst of all worlds - less revenue due to IA (customers switching parcels to competitors) - more costs due to IA (agency workers for IA & recovery) - big back log / delays in the pipeline (poor customer quality) - so less sales + more costs + poorer quality - IA is very damaging - and we are having to balance all of this whilst losing £1.2m a day - we would like to release the IA agency workers - win our business back from the competitors & give everyone the overtime they would like - but we can only do that when we get peace - difficult time for everyone at the moment…..
This CEO has had a poor run of late. The stating point last week being the government rejection of a no letter delivery Saturday. Then the CEOs poor media performances, and not least his formal police complaints, when in fact the massively overwhelming majority of postal workers were well behaved at picket lines, and following these complaint I have no doubt the Police duly consider Thompson a time waster and if anything a provocateur. And of course, Dave Wards and Andy Fureys strong and widely broadcasted media performances, in contrast to the media bloopers of Thompson. And now OFcom breathing down his neck. Up until last week I did consider the CEO in front. Now I consider the tide has turned against this one man show and that tide is irrevocably in favour of the Union.

A CWU strategy of measured IA in early 2023 I predict will conclude this matter.
The government hasn’t rejected the most recent request to end sat letters

That is a point a lot of people seem to have missed and I'm not at all sure which way this new government will lean on this. Especially if it looks like some kind of state bail out might be required to maintain the USO in its present state.

They had leaned in May but it looks like Simon is making progress on this issue at the moment. At least according to a times article posted. viewtopic.php?f=18&t=107463&p=1011366&h ... O#p1011366

You created this mess Simon now it’s down to you to fix it . Start talking to the union again while there’s still a company.

We still have people working rest days, plenty booking extended delivery, plenty starting early, not for free but being paid to come in early to do ips, prep walks etc, not sure where this overtime ban is but not in my office and the union rep sorts it all out to make sure he gets his quota. Was even negotiating with the manager on the picket line to get people in the next day early and on their rest days. Couldn't make it up really.

We are the only ones that want peace. We are the only ones that want a deal. But we won't give up our terms and conditions because you refuse to negotiate. We won't stop because you say we are losing the business money. We will only stop when you stop! The ball is well and truly in your court!

Would a change to the USO require a vote, or is it something the government can just change?

A change in the USO needs to be done going through the normal parliamentary system and a change in the law. They can't just give it the nod.

Someone said that they had a mountain of T48 going through the roof in part of the building.
