being a part timer i get into work well before start time i go upstairs which used to be the canteen sit there have a sandwich and read of the paper i sign in before i go up stairs, have know been told i have to sign in just before duty starts so they dont really know im in the building is this right

It's usual management bollocks Under H&S legislation you sign in when you arrive into the office! If there was an emergency i.e. a fire & you didn't sign in they wouldn't know you were in the building? Your sandwiches would be toast!

Re: H+S, Not true I’m afraid. There needs to be a fire risk assessment in place but there is no requirement to have a roll call or signing in/out. If there’s a fire, the fire brigade do a sweep of every floor, every room - last thing they will be doing is ticking off names from a sheet or accessing the SISO data. If it was mandatory, we’d all have to sign in when we go to stadiums, shopping centres, trains, airports etc.

Agree on the management bollocks bit though. I scan in as soon as I arrive, my train often gets me there 20 mins early, I then sit around until my start time.

I’d rather sit on a park bench than come into the Royal Mail early, the thought of being in the building any longer than I should be with incompetent management and strike breakers is too much

you could say that you are busting for the toilet, but will hold it in until kick off time, then sit on the throne for 10mins of their time, carry on at your convenience as the film goes
i've never ever come across these measures in my time here but would love it if they did

It was a snide comment plenty in ours come in 20 minutes early to have a coffee/tea before they start nothing wrong with it ,not as though they are starting before their time.
