Part of the reason the vehicle fleet is in such shite state.

We're being pressured into going faster and delivering more. Things like cleaning vans just gets pushed to the side.

Always amusess me that vans go in for an MOT or Service and still come back with bumpers hanging off. Whilst its on the ramps, and you can access all those plastic clips, you'd think they'd give it the quick once over ... OR FAIL IT... But I bet that's down to them being chased for time as well.

How often are vans getting used which really should be signed off as not fit for use?

The state of the vans just perfectly sums up what Royal Mail has now become. Some of them are literally falling apart, with cable ties or elastic bands! used to hold on bumpers or wing mirrors.

Quite often either the back or side door wont open - try getting two duties plus 50+ large packets in a van and working just via the side door!!! You mention it to a manager and they just dont want to know.

We should all refuse to use such vans but it is easir said than done and would need ALL of us to stand together.

Our van came back from a 'service' about a week ago. They had the van about three weeks, finally get it back and the oil light is on now. No oil in the office as it's on order, apparently.

Another van we had knocking around our yard had its steering collum broken. Clearly at some point the keys were lost, so Royal Mail had one of the mechanics hotwire it to get it back to the garage. You needed to jam a screwdriver into the steering collum to start it

The vans are in a desperate state.

spend the time allowed for van checks and do properly,any vehicle with damage warning light ect remove from active service,if we all followed this service would grind to a halt,a secondary back up strike if you will
