Bigger duties

Hi everyone! I work in a small DO with only 9 duties: 5 rurals and 4 town HCT walks. We have had lapsing all year, okay i summer it's not too bad, but on average we get just over 80 delivery points on our lapsing. We are expected to take it, we sometimes fail loops on our own duties, but the thing is we all go over our time most days so clearly we have too much work. Anyway, DOM (or COM or whatever they are now) told us this morning that they want to lose and HCT duty (will it be mine I wonder?) and make all of the duties bigger, like I said we go over most days how is this right? And what about the Drive for 35? Seems to me they want us f.timers to jack it in, I would if I could, seriously had enough of this job, gone to the dogs!

Sorry not a solution here but I always wondered what it would be like and often wished I did work in a small mainly rural do, I envisaged everyone getting on together as mates without the constant backstabbing etc we get in bigger offices.

Don't go over.
Work your contracted hours only.
Make it virtualy impossible for them to make cuts.

In a very similar position.The management approach here is basically we have this amount of money so this is what we will deliver. Quality is not an issue.

Remember giving away hundreds of millions of pounds just a few months ago was part of RM's plan.It was not a case of mismanagement but deliberate financial sabotage and this destructive strategy has been reenforced with the stopping of overtime leading to huge quality issues.

The strategy is short term financial gain for the long term demise of the business.

The best way to get through this period seems to be to detach yourself from any pride in the job, any sense of job satisfaction and just fill in the hours as best you can.

Or just work on the basis that customers will have their SD, Tracked and over sized delivered on a daily basis but the rest of their mail only delivered once every two days, I appeared to have received most of this week's mail in today's delivery.

Why are you going over?

I don;t like alternating failures if I can avoid it, as it can snowball, but from now on I shall be failing mail where I need to, like today I left just over 80 drops, just ain't got the time! Had enough, like one poster said don;'t do o.t, stick together etc well I am one other colleague won't break the picket line, it seems everone else breaks the damn strike, what's the point in that? I understand people have bills to pay but strike was plannned just before Covid hit so there was plenty of time to set aside a personal strike fund. I remember one colleague (who is a smashing bloke btw) say the on the previous time that he couldn't afford to strike, yet bout a month before spent bout 700 sovs on a pedigree dog; prioroties ffs! Can you afford no to strike?

Management are not going to reduce the size of duties when posties are;
a) coming in early to get ahead
b) working through their break
c) rushing round and cutting corners
d) not doing van checks/following h&s
e) going over their time to complete

If you want to see change then stand together and start doing the job by the book. Yes it will snowball but that’s their problem not ours!

They want every office to have a revision so this will be happening everywhere. 20 duties to go in our office including 18 walks. They intend to pretty much get rid of all S/A too. They are putting in 7 packet delivery duties. Remaining deliveries will lose their large parcels but have to “absorb” the 18 walks. We currently have about 90 walks so I think it will roughly work out as a van share partnership having the equivalent of half a walk added to their two duties.

They intend to pretty much get rid of all S/A too. They are putting in 7 packet delivery duties. Remaining deliveries will lose their large parcels but have to “absorb” the 18 walks.

Cue the arguments between the large parcel and walkers as to what is classed as a "large packet"?

They are putting in 7 packet delivery duties. Remaining deliveries will lose their large parcels but have to “absorb” the 18 walks. That's what happened with our revision, at the end of the first week there was a full York of letters and flats and one of packets backed up,4 weeks in and there was 4 yorks full at the side of our fitting , this was the case for most of the office, fun times

thats an old revision they want a newer revision after xmas we had the packet one a year ago
