The rumour doing the rounds is Thompson has been ordered by the board to come to an agreement before Thursdays 6 monthly figures are released because the figures will show that RM are in fact not losing £1m a day but are eg only making £3m a day where as before the strike they made £4m.This is backed up by the share price ( tip off their mates ) having gone up 25% in the week that I have just been off. Obviously all the press will point him out as a liar and somebody not to be trusted.

My manager is expecting some kind of announcement tomorrow. I don't think RM want the black Friday strikes to happen and looking at the share price recently, it looks like positive.

Thompson wanted talks concluded by the 15th before the half year announcement on the 17th so could be something. But most likely probably nothing.

He won't be outed as a liar because what you're describing is just how accounting and the stock market work - the way our system is set up, it demands infinite growth regardless of outside circumstances.

It doesn't matter if you're making a profit, you have to be making more profit than last year - if you're making less profit, your business is failing.

Just look at Meta for example, posting absolutely absurd unimaginable profits....but because it was less profits than the year before, their share price went down and it was seen as a failure.

Royal Mail could be making £3million a day but it wouldn't matter, because as far as capitalism is concerned they need to be making £5million a day - just being a profitable business isn't enough, they need to be making more profit than they were before.
