Anyone else have this problem?

Started a new round last week. Very long lots of flats etc. one of the last deliveries on my round is a close with 10 houses. Every single house has its letter box at the foot of the door. 9/10 have mail, catalogues Brochures d2d’s. I struggle to get down and lift the flap and put the mail in. What can I do? Refuse to deliver? Report to manager? Leave mail in mat? These houses are probably about 10 years old.

Something needs to be done about letterboxes on the bottom of doors
It’s worse than dogs - see the dog in garden don’t deliver etc

More and more people are getting new doors and 9 out of 10 times the LB is right on the bottom
People are ignorant they spend hundreds of pound on a new door but can’t spend a few quid on a box on the wall

I would 100% refuse to deliver via those letterboxes. Its an absolute joke. Speak to your manager, union rep, HR whoever.

As most will have said, drop a hint to management that you may need sick leave due to back issues from stooping, if he or she isn’t proactive just carry out a dynamic risk assessment and deem them unsafe to deliver to

There's loads in our office, pain in the arse they are. Dunno if you can refuse, but suggesting your back may go if you keep doing them might nudge somebody to do something. May mean moving walks though.

They are one of the most annoying parts of the job- even worse when they are stiff and you can’t easily get the mail through.

Was not a law passed 2 foot 6 Inches high or 75cm high for new builds!

Low letter boxes helped wreck my knees! Never any support from Mangement or union. And has been said more and more new houses or replacement doors on old houses are having these dreadful low letter boxes! Often combined with really strong springs or draught excluders which stop letters actually going through!

That's the EN 13724 standard but it's not a law (yet)....

Knock on the door. If they don't answer take the mail back to the office. Low letter boxes are a health risk and you should have been told to assess any risk to your own health! If you get injured delivering to these ridiculously low letter boxes you could be penalised for not assessing the risk correctly! Was forced to do a RM health and safety training program on the computer a few years back... Look... Consider.. Decide !

I did this once, conversation went:

I could but the letterbox is too low.

Well I have to pick it up from the floor on the inside and it's fine.

Ok, put your shoes on and come and deliver these letters to the next 20 houses with me then.

A decent size mailbox was on the wall a week later.....was lucky she didn't complain I suppose but I'd just had enough of them that day!

New builds aren't the problem it's idiots getting new front doors

When you discuss a new door with the salesman they will always try & sell you a low letterbox it’s easier to fit & apparently makes the door stronger
