You’re in your 20s…would you stay?

I'm 3 weeks into a new job after serving 4 years , with no time off for good behaviour.

Wow, what a difference it is. I'm still getting used to being treated like a person. I thought everyone had something wrong with their faces at first, but i googled it and it turns out people were just happy and smiling.

I have been keeping an eye on here and it just confirms my decision to leave was a great move.

Royal Mail has always been full of people who say it's the world's worst job but never leave.....

There are plenty of worse things to do for a living and some of us do still enjoy it especially when out of the office!

Some people can't let go of the past is it as good as it once was no is any job?

But we should be grateful for all the good years and the job security we have had I've done 28 and a half years 25 of them I would say were pretty good

Got about same service as yourself and what you said is about right no job stays the same. But what’s being asked of us nowadays is too much. See younger ones thrown onto duties with days Mail and pkts and expected to just get on with it. Then after getting passed pillar to post you see the life draining out of them they start to leave and we have had a few of them.

I've been on 35 years. I wouldn't like to be just starting in the job, obviously it isn't what it used to be. But i think alot depends on what sort of office you work in. I work in a small rural office( there only 16 of us and we have 10 duties) I read every day about offices failing loads of duties and mail piling up. I can honestly say i've never seen any of that. I've had 5 managers, there hasn't been a problem with any of them. No doubt there are alot of problems in Royal mail, but like i say alot depends on the size of the office.

If you’re young enough to get out - RUN FOR THE HILLS.

It’s just exhausting now in so many ways, especially in deliveries.

Staff leaving and not being replaced, no forward planning from management who couldn’t care less, coming in to 2+ days worth of mail/parcels and having to argue with clueless managers about what can be done. Tracked parcels being prioritised over Birthday cards and healthcare appointment letters. Uniform/shoes not fit for purpose that’s if you can get hold of any. PDAs don’t work in the rain and run out of battery. Ten year old vans that are full of rubbish and keep breaking down. Getting bombarded with propaganda. I could go on…

The job was good when I started in 2010 but it’s a s**t show now and a lot of us are actively looking to get out.

The future of delivering letters is short. There will be a world wide push to do away with paper use and letters. That takes away RM's monopoly and leaves it as just another parcel outfit. Pay and conditions will only deteriorate. What RM currently pay does look better than others, but as we all know you have to graft for it.
Let's face it... we all know that it will be a minimum wage job in a few years. I dont think anyone is happy to destroy their physical and mental Well being for that. Look around and ask the older posties, they can barely walk without pain and would never have stayed if the job was like it is now. They are just waiting on retirement or payoff. Grass is greener with the time you have.
