A team from Home Counties North mail centre has broken the company record for the most letters processed on a single shift.

Ten colleagues processed 346,341 items during an eight-hour shift in December, beating the previous record of 336,087 set by Swindon mail centre three years earlier.

Work area manager Eddie O’Connell said when some of his team approached him about beating the record, he didn’t think they would be able to do it. The record set by Swindon involved a team of 20 people.

‘I was happy for them to give it a go but I didn’t think they would get near the target,’ he said.

But after one attempt that saw them fall short of the record by just 700, the following night the team smashed the target by more than 10k – a throughput of 43k items put through the intelligent letter sorting machine (iLSM) per hour.

‘The mail centre went nuts! I am so proud of them,’ Eddie said.

The team included Arif Mohammed (team leader), Ernest Quo, Yasir Machalam, Sarath Chandran, Maha Jayapal, Shansheed Yahia, Nelson Cleetus, Harsh Singh, Khalild Ali, Imran Awan, Jithin Thekke Malaparambil and Shiabudheen Kunhiahamed Nafeessa.

for their own back,they surely dont think their caring sharing employer will
let that figure stand as a one off, reap what you sow folks

Cheating there, it's supposed to be 1 person on the feed not 2 or 3. Only larger MCs will get that sort of volume of letters. They should be getting 42-43k throughput all the time and there's no reason why they shouldn't sometimes hit 45k

Not difficult for family members to stumble across this when trying to find nice words online... “Noddy Holder” or Eddie as he was more affectionately known was my husband. He died last year.
