Having SA taken off us replaced by agency workers

Post by macthejaffa »

So in our DO there are 4 afternoon SA collection duties, of which I have signed for one which I do twice a week. After Christmas were told that we are being removed from them and they are being passed over to the nearest CPU where they will then be covered by agency staff.

My question is, is this allowed?

The group of us who do these SAs are more than happy to carry on doing them and are told we are powerless to stop this happening. I always believed that RM staff couldn’t be axed from jobs to be replaced by agency as this breaks some kind of law? I may be totally wrong but this just isn’t sitting right with me and when you’ve done these duties for 12 years like I have, you kind of come to rely on them.

Is it Legal?

I think it is legal but it’s acting in bad faith and makes bad business sense to get rid of reliable regulars.

This seems like another case of management given permanent staff a kicking just because they've had the nerve to take IA, I bet the agency staff can't believe their luck! Although if all the rounds are going to be moved to a 4pm/5pm finish perhaps it's RM intention to have all SA collections covered by agency staff in the future? I can see agency jobs starting to look attractive, deliver a few parcels before lunch then do 3 hours SA work in the afternoon.

That’s when they turn up! :cuppa

It’s hilarious watching them execute their grand plans - which ultimately boils down to relying on some agency guy - who delivers half a round at best when he’s here, and turns up about 2/5 days!

It’s hilarious and terrifying but in equal measure how utterly inept the upper management are in this company. Their grand ideas: cost the company more money; piss off the existing workforce (even more); provide a far poorer public service.

You couldn’t make it any worse, even if you actively tried to.

You know who soon come back around too … grovelling… :left:
Not today mate.

I thought RM closed all the MPUs down a few years ago
