02/11/22 Mount Pleasant Bulletin

Post by jimallen »

Hi, here is the Mount Pleasant bulletin of 2 November... Comments welcomed!

GOT TO BE ALL OUT!
RM's lawyers have found a "legal" excuse to stop the
"functional strikes": "numerous material concerns with
the formal notification of planned rolling strike action" ,
whatever that may mean! And yes, the law is on the side
of the bosses... but who says that we have to abide by
this

AND AGAIN: GOT TO BE ALL OUT!
Why on earth has the union leadership cancelled our
strikes on the 12 and 14 November? Apparently they
want to take more "proportionate action"?! When the
bosses escalate, surely the only "proportionate" action is
for us to escalate as well?

THAT'S WHAT WE CALL AN INSULT
In the meanwhile, RM bosses came up with what they
call 9%: a 3.5% increase (on top of the 2% imposed
earlier this summer), not even backdated to April! They
add a miserable 1.5% from April 2023. And as if this was
not insulting enough, they throw in a lump sum of
around £500 for this year, but only if we accept that they
re-write our contracts and sack 10,000 of us!! We don’t
accept any of it!

GROW A SPINE
So now we know why Dave Ward didn't come to our
picket last week... he was dealing with RM's new
nonsense, and also agreeing to ACAS mediating the
dispute! Why was he even considering this, when it's
pretty obvious that the bosses are digging their heels in?
What we need is to merge all of our strike days into an
all-out indefinite strike! The bosses are going for
everything we have won in the past, we can't let them get
away with that!
PS: Indefinite strike is what got criminal barristers a 15%
pay rise (albeit short of their 25% demand). We could
take a leaf from their book!

WHERE ARE WE AT?
On RM-PFS side, we’re still waiting to know when our
next strike is... Of course, we want to be part of the next
national strikes, which are now scheduled for Black
Friday and Cyber Monday - but that's too far away for
everybody! Our bills are skyrocketing by the day, we
can't wait!

TOO BIG NOT TO BE NOTICED
So did the Elephant think that by using Phoenix gate
during the strikes, he’d enter the Mount without us
knowing about it? Was he too ashamed to cross the
picket line, or was it just a way to sneak-in some of his
favourites to keep an almost completely empty Mount
clean?

THE NEW KING OF THE MOUNT?
And of course, after the strike, Elephant proceeded to
play his little power game, cancelling overtime for those
among us who were on strike. Anyway, we're going on
strike for decent wages, so that we don't ever need this
bloody overtime again!

NOT ENOUGH!
Unite/CMA is recommending that managers accept the
pay offer made by RM last week, which is 5.5% overall,
but only if managers agree to Sunday working and
"attendance time changes". And there's an extra £1000
lump sum as a bribe. This is still a massive real terms
pay cut, so managers are still welcome to join us on
strike!

PRESENT AND INCORRECT!
Since Monday, DUMs have asked us to scan in/out by the
Bookroom. Yes, it’s as if we're back at school, having a
roll-call... But no problem, we'll do our hours and at the
right pace. And they can forget about us doing overtime
to clear-up what's come back from the walks!

GOOD LUCK WITH THAT!
What are DUMs thinking, with these 45 duties they want
to cut, including 12 EVRs in March. At this rate, they'll
end up buried under a pile of full mail bags.

WE'RE NOT FLEXIBLE
As for this attempt to get us to go and deliver mail in
North London, did they want to get their own back on us
for going on strike? Or were they trying to get us used to
this idea of a new "flexibility"? Well, it’s absolutely out of
the question!

DON'T PUSH US
These delivery managers threatened some of us who
refused to go with disciplines, but backed down quickly,
when they saw the galvanising effect their bullying
attempt had on the rest of us!

POINTLESS!
For those of us who did go, we found that there was no
work for us to do anyway! And of course, when we got
back to W1, our work was still there waiting for us. What
useless, hair-brained managers!

GOT TO BE BETTER THAN THAT!
EVR packages are just a joke! Some of us have applied,
but it seems that management is only prepared to offer 6
months-worth of our wages, in most cases barely £10k.
EVRs used to be 2 years-worth of wages. Looks as if this
is a deliberate disincentive - because for now, they are so
short of hands...

A BOSSES' HOLIDAY
On letters, we're happy that King Etcetera has taken a
two week holiday! Maybe next time Mr Witless can join
him, so that we can be left in complete peace!

SICK LEAVE KEEPS US WELL!
With winter coming, some of us are getting our Covid
boosters. These can sometimes make us feel ill for a few
days after, so it only makes sense that there is special
sick leave given for this, like we used to get!

Hare brained surely?
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

A lot of.people in this company need to get a grip, things change you either move with it or get left behind, yes there is a lot of s**t happening in this company, but the bottom line is it has to change or there will be no more royal mail.

I don't think anyone has been on strike for better terms and conditions.
Just a dilution of the worsening of T&Cs.
