There are still people in my office that are coming in an hour early to throw out a box of mail, rush out the door with no lunch break, then come back to office and sit there for two hours and clock out on their time.

Why would you think it would or could be any different?
The days of getting paid three hours O/T but finishing after two are over....scan in and out has seen to that.

I don’t think that’s remotely true and is a drum that the company have beaten over the last couple of years in order to make its employees somehow think that they are indulging in outdated practices(or Spanish as a former CEO liked to say)

In reality, many other companies who employ a system of individual “non-monitored” job based work, British Gas for example agree a level of remuneration per job as it encourages effiency by way of incentive.

For example, look at the current lunacy of paying an agency worker more per hour than a current employee to do half the amount of parcels per hour just for the sake of not paying overtime outwith contracted hours.

And if anyone thinks it’s some sort of company standpoint-do you think they’ll be telling owner drivers “we’ve paid you £x to complete those parcels so we don’t expect to see your car back here before 6pm”?

Agreed, different firms have different incentives to encourage employees, but that's nothing remotely to do with being offered five hours pay to do a task and only staying for say, three hours.
For those who've punched the clock out in the Real World, that's fraud, pure and simple.
Coming in on a Saturday morning and claiming 5 hours but going home at 10.30 would be a recipe for dismissal, but then if you're on the clock you stay for five hours to get paid for five hours, and that's clearly RM's plan all along.

So fascinated to see whats going to happen to the ghost king in my office, who for years has regularly doubled up as well as taking the van home (12miles).

He has somehow manipulated our managers to the point where as well as the doubling up, he regularly gets paid way over the odds for doing a couple of extra loops or half a york of packets.

If they wont agree to his terms he stamps his feet and threatens to never double up again . . . and low and behold they let him have his way.

As for taking the van home- the most shocking thing to me is that he doesnt even return to the office after finishing, he just drives straight home. Ive never known what he does with his collected mail and its always intrigued me - is he just bringing it in the next morning? If so, surely this is not right?!!

If he will now be forced to physically clock out in the building everyday, like the rest of us, its going to be interesting to see how things pan out and if the doubling up will stop.

I dont blame people for milking the ghost if they can get it all here to make a wage. I hate ghost overtime is a thing, having the worst walk in the office while others can finish 2 hours before me working by themselfs. bang another round out get paid 4-6 hours and finish the same time as me or hour later and get paid soo much more.

But he can just scan out with his ID card on the PDA, wherever he is. I imagine the GPS position where he signs out will be logged though.

Ghosting carrying on as normal at mine. They take out the work with their duty then sign when they get back .
