Returning from career break

Hello all.

I am returning from a career break on Tuesday 1st November and have had a look at the rota to see another name in my duty and a loss of rotational day.
Can anyone show me in writing where Royal Mail have this policy? Not once during the application process did anyone mention this to me & my rep who sat in with me during the meetings was unaware of this aswell until he raised it with his senior rep.
Nor was it on any documents I was provided regarding different processes for extended time off eg Career Break, Parental leave

Also, with my day off now being strike days, will I be docked pay?

I lost my duty when I returned from my career break ( I knew this would likely be the case beforehand), I don't think there is any obligation for you to return back on to what was your duty. No you shouldn't be docked pay if it is your rest day.

When returning from a career break you are not guaranteed your old duty back or even a job in the same delivery office.

As far as I can remember you are only guaranteed a job with Royal Mail.

No doubt they will take strike day off you but make sure you get it back following week cannot deduct your wages if strike day falls on your rest day.

How long was your career break in total and were you expected back? Do you know they do have revisions and repicks while your not there and also it is not your duty but Royal Mails. sorry for being hard on this but if the Break was a few months could have got in touch with you could they not?

I was told a career break has to be 6 months or more when I asked for one. I was given authorized unpaid leave instead as i wanted less than this. It was understood my duty would remain open for me under these circumstances. An official career break as I understand it means you have a guaranteed job with Royal Mail but not for your old duty. If it's just being covered and not got a new duty holder now I don't see why you can't talk to them and ask to be put back on. Good luck mate.

Also when you take a career break your seniority is put on hold while your off,,, so if you had 14 years in and took a 1 year career break on your return you would still only have 14 years seniority

100%. You should be happy enough to still have the job to come back to after the break. Thinking you're gonna go back on your duty is having a brass neck. Your duty went vacant as soon as your break started so whoever was allocated it should now own it until your next resign

Seems a lot of people here are jealous of someone being able to take a career break.
So if someone goes off sick for six months on full pay, do they get their signed for duty on return?

Not always people who never even were sick lost duty's in our place.

It is becoming a free for all now with duties; no one is guaranteed any particular duty; just do as told...

It is also going to be the case going forwards; mail is not going to be delivered for every house or walk everyday. So it will be a case of which duty has not been done for two or more days; that is the reality!

You might get your duty back but why not just chill and do something else for now.

I’m taking a career break next May to November. Couldn’t care less what job I’m on IF I come back.
