whatever happens i bet at some point contracts will be changed that will include driving,The legal side of that?who knows but i could see it happening.

Ok, people keep going on about this so I'm going to play ...
Let's say for arguments sake half the workforce are non-drivers - RM tear up their old contracts, try to get them to sign new ones with ability to drive included, with the threat of dismissal if they don't - half the workforce refuse - there goes the USO BIG STYLE, not to mention the legal ramifications...
As an aside, the only P&O worker to take the company to an industrial tribunal won a 5 figure sum!

People can choose to drive or not drive within RM for all I care - makes no odds to me.
There probably will come a time that the solely walking part of this job becomes extremely undesirable with USO changes etc.

There's zero chance of drivers being paid more than non-drivers, part of this dispute is RM getting rid of historic payments for "this and that" so they are not going to create more special payments.
Non drivers are at more risk if any redundancies do happen, but it would depend on lots of factors in each specific office.

Can I ask why those drivers who resent the non drivers on here, actually drive for Royal Mail?

Could it be that you got the job when those non driving colleagues were already employed on a different non driving contract before you joined the company and you took a DRIVING job and now moan that you need to drive and they dont?

Or was it that you CHOSE to become a driver when you already had a non driving contract when park and loop came in because you thought it would be easier with smaller loops or give you more chance of getting a better duty?

Royal Mail moved the goalposts and changed the contracts for future entrants - but thats not the fault of non drivers. Park and Loop literally halfed the number of duties they were able to choose overnight.

I don't know about risks but from an employer point of view they are not that flexible and most non-drivers that I know in my office have done at least 20 years and full time.

Yes, RM specified FLE staff, but didn't differentiate between drivers/non-drivers... I would imagine, eventually, RM would like a PT workforce on a lot less privileges than we are now ... But again, I don't see compulsory redundancies; I see the reductions coming from natural wastage and people leaving, and eventually, from the 1 day reduction in the USO.

If that is thexase then Hct posties need more money than drivers because they are freezing their balls of all day exposed to all conditions while drivers have shelter in a van usually with ac / a hot fan. There is no comparison between a driver posite and a postie that is exposed to the elements for the full duration of their round.
