Dropping hours

If you asked to drop your hours you would obviously have to sign a new contract. Does that new contract mean that you would be forced to work Sundays? Or does it just apply to new starters. I've done over 30 years as a Postman.

Several of us have enquired similar time in job and were refused. We assume they are trying to run us into the ground. Good luck anyway

A mate of mine in our division asked to drop from 39 hours to 30 hours a few years back. We were having a resign at the time and he took the drop to be able to aquire a duty as he would have missed the cut on the full time quota even though he had 20 years banked. Anyway, there was no problem with him doing it as the DOM at the time knew it suited him as he was making 9 hours a week so couldn't believe his luck. I suppose it depends on whether your DOM or COM or whatever you call them in your part of the world wants to be a crafty fecker and adds his own wee stipulations!!!!

Thanks for the replies, the dropping of hours isn't a problem. It's just that i'm wondering if a change of contract would mean compulsary Sundays.

My mate signed a contract and the only thing on it was him agreeing to the drop and that he couldn't go back to the 39 hours again for a minimum of 2 years. I don't think they can make you do Sundays but then again we're working in horrible times now compared to then and the bastards will do anything to screw us!!!

Personally I'd wait until they started looking for the redundancies or cuts or whatever they want to do with us. You never know, you dropping hours could become more beneficial to you then. Although God knows what the future holds!!!
