We have been using siso for a month now. You scan in on a morning with your card on a fixed pda in the office. You go out on delivery. Your breaks have nothing to do with siso. If you don't have your breaks that's your fault. Upon finishing, my mucker doesn't come back to the office with me, he scans out on his pda. I then take everything back to the office, including his pda. I put everything away then I do the consolidation scans on both pda's and then hand them in. I then scan out with my card at the fixed point in the office and go home. It is quite simple and as mentioned it is not linked to the wages computer yet but we understand that is coming.

How would that work then, he must be finishing early everyday as there’s no travel time for him back to the office.

Theoretically correct unless we're up to time or over.

Nice of them to leave everything to you when you get back.

If someone suddenly, for no apparent reason, wants to take their full break mid shift it would scream to management that they were trying to ‘eat up’ time and game the SISO system.
Surely?
Well obviously, the question is what they can do to stop it. Im assuming they would have some way of dealing with that ever happening but its an interesting question given up until now most of us took our last/only break off the end of our shift and left the building 20 mins early - that could be put to a stop with SISO if management insisted on no one leaving until the scheduled finish time.

They could be in a tricky situation where they cant force us to take a 20 break back at the office at the end of our shift but also cant really force us to take our break in the van.

Legally I dont actually know what they could do if everyone decided to return to the office halfway through the shift for either second break or full break ( depending on if FT or PT ) in the break room.
Posties really don't help their cause with this kind of petty, incalcitrant and entitled attitude.

I doubt there's any other driving job of any description in the UK where the employee would consider it reasonable to break off from their route and return to their base midway through their shift specifically just to take their break, before going back out to complete their shift, especially when the outdoor element of their shift is typically only 4-5 hours.

Correct. Even our local Ambulance etc crew now take their breaks away from the base unit.

We are actually lucky to get paid breaks, not many firms do this anymore. I take my break in one lump about 3 hours into my shift (not in office).
Probably 90% of my office never take their break and leave early as they say that they take their break at end of shift, and they have always done this! these people won't change, lots of them still come in early as well
I'm of the opinion "if you don't use it there's a good chance you will lose it" the paid element of the break at least.

That'll be some hours taken out of your office. Say your total break time each is 1hr and say there's 50 staff who do that, that's over a duty's worth of hours they'd look to take out of your office.

In The Way Forward Agreement 2000 it says as long as you have had your 20 minutes indoor break before leaving for delivery, they cannot force you to sit at the end for your second 20 minutes if you haven't taken it. It clearly states in that agreement that in that case attendance is not required.

If you start at 6 15am and finish at 1 45pm (7 and a half hours) how many minutes meal break are you entitled to 30 or 40 minutes?

I'm guessing possibly incorrectly that he's doing a loop or two to compensate which in theory is great I'd like that arrangement if I were you, however if he's scanning out on his PDA then still working for half an hour or whatever then maybe not so good these days.
