Hypocrytes on the Picket

I dont go on the Picket myself but I have stopped OT , dont work my day off dont come in early and take my breaks.
We have people on the Picket line who come in early , work day off dont take breaks and do OT.
Surely its better to do the work to rule than Picket and clear the office during a Strike

We need to stop this bickering nonsense between each other based on our own individual idealistic opinions about what IA should be and base it on what it currently is.

If people aren’t going to work and are not crossing the picket line then that is all that matters at the minute.

I was going to say the same .. At ours we have people, including, believe it or not, a union guy, who never work their days off, suddenly doing it! BUT, like BigSacks said, the union never asked us NOT to work overtime or our days off, just withdraw our labour on specified days ... By the way, I don't work my days off or do overtime but I understand why some people do; if it's their way of making ends meet AND supporting the union on those days, so be it.

If I didn't work the odd day off and also do overtime I'd have to look for a new job, as I simply can't afford to live on 4 days part time pay a week indefinitely.

Surely supporting work colleagues by striking is a better option than just leaving RM?

As has been mentioned a few times this strike is about causing disruption with the bulk parcel sending customers, the damage is done when they take their business elsewhere because RM can't guarantee delivering their parcels on strike days, so to me in a way it's sticking it to RM if you're doing overtime days off or whatever to get money back.

Royal Mail said there would be no overtime offered to clean up after the strikes. They were dreaming. If they lose money through the strikes, & then through overtime to get back on track, this works in our favour. If you want to strike, lose a days pay, not do overtime to make up the shortfall, that’s up to you. But calling those that do “hypocrites” is ridiculous. You stand on the picket line you’re my brother/sister. Think on.

I agree with what most people have said, quit calling out people working OT to make up for lost pay. Perhaps that's the only way they can sustain the strike, would you rather they do that, or say f**k it and go back to work?

There was no "work to rule" on the ballot. If the CWU wanted an OT ban they could have balloted for it, end of.

The truth is, because a lot of part-time employees are completely dependent on Overtime, it was never an option.

As long as people don't go in and brake the strike on the day it is none of anyone's business what they do afterwards some may not feel ok with overtime to clear the backlog even some will refuse to do it. That is a personal choice you don't need a reason we have not had a work to rule ballot yet if we did I would vote for it but the fact remains we have not had one!

Yep agree with the others on here. Most important thing is that people support the strike, if they need to make up a bit of money before/after to be able to sustain that support then that's what they have to do. You'd be better giving your support to your picket line colleagues rather than coming on here slagging them off IMO.

A strike is an organized withdrawal of labour for a given time (in our case 1 day) and I find it odd people struggle with the fact once that period has passed you return to work as normal until the next one. We have no mandate to continue IA between the strikes and the warning from the CWU is to carry on as you normally would so as not to be seen to be encouraging IA outside of the given dates.

I got paid overtime the other day for going over, due to being given a godawful hire van that clapped out mid round and being stranded 7 miles from the depot til 5pm...
I actually felt bad for getting it. Took it though

I've no problem with anyone working their day off. It's the hypocrites (including our rep) that come in early that I'm biting my tongue at. The Monday after the Saturday strike him and plenty others were in an hour early. At least he's stopped working Sunday's now on o/t to clear the backlog.

And before anyone suggests I stand for rep if I'm not happy - it's not that easy. There's a clique and he's not getting voted out anytime soon. I'm not going to go into too much detail but he blabbed something very personal about a colleague and when he got found out he offered to resign but the clique wouldn't let him. Bunch of sycophants saying "oh don't go, we think you're doing a wonderful job".
