Isn't it just typical
The word redundancy is mentioned, but it’s like you have found out you have won the lottery, but it’s a week when it’s an unbelievable amount of people have won at the same time? You get F**k all.

Re: Isn’t it just typical
As I've said (numerous times!) there will be NO mass redundancies on offer, at least not in deliveries.
Virtually every D.O. across the whole country is currently understaffed with unfilled vacancies and the figures mentioned in this latest announcement can easily be achieved in the timescale quoted through natural attrition and a recruitment freeze.
RM were just attempting to use the R word as a ''scare tactic'' in the current strike situation, but it just shows how out of touch with the workforce they are because I'm certain that if even very modest redundancy packages were offered they would be absolutely overwhelmed with applicants.

The ‘R’ word looks great in the newspapers and on news bulletins and in social media. Making us look the bad guys so he’s had to resort to the ‘R’ word.

I spoke to the local station master (we all know the trains are striking as well) and he mentioned he'd heard about the THREAT and reckoned it was just BS! I said, "What do you think the reaction was in the Delivery Office"? He said, "I bet everyone was saying WHERE DO I SIGN"!
So a lot of working people do understand the situation.

Re: Isn’t it just typical
Our office hasn't been replacing lost staff for nearly a year. This so called redundancy plan is nothing to do with the strikes and more to do with ongoing cost cutting which has been happening in many companies for decades. Gotta keep them profits rising, rich get richer and the poor get poorer.

Re: Isn’t it just typical
Our manager is tearing his hair out. Think RM have scored an own goal. We were having 2 or 3 a month leaving beginning of year, but then it eased off and calmed down for a few months. We lost 12 long timers all full timers and good grafters. Now within a week we have had another 3 hand in their notice and another 4 have interviews this week. There is plenty of work around here and people have realised this isn’t the good job it use to be. We soon will be running on 50% of staff. The dom com din or whatever they are called now said yesterday I might as well shut up shop. We had 6 new starters in June. The last one finished today. They have all gone on to better things. I know 5 female staff who are off asap because of the school pick up. They have got jobs 9.30 to 3 at the local supermarket.
Well thought out RM.

I overheard the COM on the phone to someone after the announcement.... "They can't even clear absorption most days how are they going to deal with longer walks and no doubt still having absorption?!" so I don't think it's gone down well!

I love it how so many would jump at redundancy, myself included, and he used it as a threat. Made me smile. The problem is he's also ripped up those terms too.

It’s the same up here, no doubt there will be 1 or 2 more letters of resignation being handed to the boss tomorrow morning. The people leaving are experienced people who know all sorts of jobs rural and firms, we will soon be at the point of nobody in the office knowing certain specialist jobs.Shirtbuttons wrote: ↑16 Oct 2022, 13:34Our manager is tearing his hair out. I agree if the USO does get reduced then there is the scope for a sizable reduction in the delivery workforce and therefore redundancies.
