My partner has been in hospital with a head/brain injury since Friday. We are not married (been together 7 years) and I currently go between his and my parents houses to stay over.
I'm obviously not going to go into work whilst he is hospital, as I'm going to visit him during visiting hours and Im worried sick.
Does anyone know where I stand on special/compassionate leave?

I suspect You will end up being offered unpaid leave or having to use your own holiday up.

Dependant’s leave: Where there is an immediate need to make alternative care arrangements for a
dependant (e.g. their child-minder is sick). Leave is normally one day unpaid with further days either unpaid or
covered by annual holiday.
Family emergency leave: Where there is an immediate need to deal with a more serious emergency to do
with a dependant e.g. they are injured, give birth, or there is a death. Leave is normally one day with pay, with
further days either unpaid or covered by annual holiday. Exceptional circumstances might warrant three days
with pay.

Ok thanks. I thought it would be unpaid. I'm just confused as it states to be classed as a dependent you must be partners cohabiting at the same address. Because I go between my parents and his parents, my mail etc still goes to my parents house, so I didn't know where I stood on it.

Under the circumstances I'd say that's a technicality any compassionate manager would overlook. End of the day it's unpaid so no skin off their nose. Get any argument, go off sick with stress, which you will most likely have anyway, and still get paid. After a week get a Dr note. Hope you and your partner are going to be ok.
