S.T is talking out of his ass again, we need more people, not less. Our office is short of 20 staff now, and we have had days worth of backlogs since COVID supposedly ended, that was before the strikes hit. This is just scare tactics, from a useless bonehead.
If it was true it would be because he thinks he could get away with replacing current workers with cheaper ones, and I think that would be an illegal use of the redundancy process because those roles are therefore not redundant. He probably hopes he could entice some to VR to at least replace some staff with cheaper alternatives, but he obviously wants to even do that on the cheap, and not pay historical rates. In which case he would not get many takers.

Its mad that he not only threatens redundancies but then says pay outs wont be as high as the agreed, usual amount. Coz they cant afford it.

You can absolutely 100% guarantee that when it comes to his pay off once he inevitably gets pushed out soon, it will be mind boggling humongous.

Thompson has already publicly stated that in the long term he wants the USO to only be 3 days a week. It’s also became apparent he wants all large parcels delivered from the hub offices by owner drivers employed on new contracts. These are plans that will make the 10,000 job losses look like a drop in the ocean and yet he has the gall to try to twist the narrative to make it look like it’s the actions of the union and union members that is threatening jobs.

They would struggle to get volunteers at 33 week payment never mind less, that's just over half a year pay, you won't survive long on that while job hunting.

Especially when you knew you used to get 104 weeks max, no matter how crap a job is, the money comes first, bills don't pay themselves.

There are basically two forms of redundancy payments:

1. Statutory Redundancy – which is:

Half a week’s pay for each full year you were under 22
One week’s pay for each full year you were 22 or older, but under 41
One and half week’s pay for each full year you were 41 or older

Length of service is capped at 20 years.
Maximum payout = £17,130

2. Voluntary Redundancy – which is a figure ultimately decided by your employer and is usually higher than statutory.

RM's MTSF agreement for VR used a similar formula as above but was more generous, with a maximum payout of 104 weeks pay.

They have said that will no longer apply!

For reference, the MTSF ready reckoner for VR is here: viewtopic.php?f=36&t=74407 although it's dated 2010 and there were changes a few years later which meant some elements were no longer valid.

There have been comments suggesting RM are going to offer 1 week per year of service. But the literature the company have released only says they'll tell us more in December.
I haven't seen anything official from the CWU at all.
