A big difference between RM and the other couriers is that the other couriers all offer 1hr time slots and for some once the driver gets within a certain number of deliveries before your own, you can see where they are on a map and also how many deliveries are remaining before yours.

I was able to track an Amazon delivery yesterday, apparently I was 4 delivery stops away, the map showed the driver just 100yards away, it took 20 minutes.......

I'd say a key difference between us and Amazon/Evri/etc is that the majority of customers know RM will keep it safe, not chuck it on a doorstep or take it to a depot you aren't allowed to collect from. Amazon's 1 hour time slots are useless when they come through 45 minutes before the hour starts and you're still at work.

Worst 739 experience I had was a neighbour volunteered to take it in, next day found out from the customer that the neighbours had taken it and promptly gone to Australia for 4 weeks!

In answer to the question, if I'm on a rural that I know I can bring back no parcels... Urban areas it's about half some days

I talked to area rep last week, who told me about a conversation he recently had with the area manager. The long & short of it is that Royal Mail are going to give us the authority to doorstep parcels. His reply to area manager, there had better be no come back. Maybe this is where we are heading!

The problems is when they say that to Amazon or EVRI they'll just leave it, we're probably the only delivery co. which doesn't, unless the sender is insisting on a signature.

What I can't get my head around is why RM don't insist the customers either confirm they'll be in or leave a Safeplace option, probably out of 100 packets/parcels I deliver a day less than 1% have a confirmed Safeplace option.

Conversely, the problem is that Amazon or EVRI presumably won't have to face a clipboard wielding manager who's determined to take you down the conduct route for denial of receipt...all because your face doesnt fit with them, you didn't take your lapsing and cut off on that summer Saturday in 2018 and they've been waiting for revenge ever since

if they want us to leave everything then a safeplace or neighbour option should be compulsory when ordering . then a photo as evidence should be enough to prove weve done our bit.

P739s on my current and previous walk are about the same: 10 to 20%. No doorstepping. Deliver To Neighbour is time-dependent (so rarely), and sensible safeplace instructions are rare to begin with (no, I am not leaving it in the blue bin on bin day).

The issue with Rings etc is you've zero proof of the call taking place, so if the customer does say leave a parcel behind the bin etc and then submits a DoR you've no proof you were told to leave it.
