collections not available

Post by annem »

There is a hotel on my walk that has occasional parcel collections. Quite often I am standing waiting while the clueless receptionist checks all over the place for the parcel. There's been at least five times recently where I've been unable to collect the item because they can't find it. Today, I was waiting for around 10 minutes and there was about four of them looking for the parcel. They wanted the name of the person who had arranged the collection, but obviously I don't have those details. All I have is the printout label and the size of the parcel to be collected.
Clearly, guests at the hotel are arranging for parcels to be collected, but for whatever reason are forgetting to leave their parcel at reception.
What can I do about this? The situation is annoying for me standing around waiting while they search. It's not like I can say 'you have 2 minutes to find it' because they disappear while looking for it and sometimes they come back with a parcel.

If it's not sat there waiting at the designated spot, click not available for collection and off you go.

Agreed, you cant go back another day as the collection wont be on your pda unless the customer rearranges it. These issues will continue until RM charges for collection

A lot of these issues are caused because the system auto generates a collection ticket when the person uses online click and drop.

The number of no answers for parcels has increased hugely ever since they made it free.

Although to be fair, it seems that the Royal Mail App defaults to a postie coming for the collection, when the customer would rather drop the parcel off at the CSP using click and drop.

The website makes you choose a collection, not until you go to your basket can you remove it. Really poor user experience, I expect they have done this on purpose to try and make people have collections and get used to them before they charge again. I've had a few that have said to me that they have already taken the parcel to a post office.

The the OP's case, attempted collection, if it is not there mark it as 'collection failed, parcel not present. (Or wording to that effect)

Might be linked to the reduced opening hours of the CSPs. Some CSPs are only open for a very short time each day

I buy postage on line quite a lot but the last couple of months, each service is marked as collection only. I haven’t found a way yet of cancelling it so I take my parcels to work and hand it to the postie that delivers my mail who scans it for me.
