There seems to be a common view held certainly by Dvbuk that anyone North of Watford is working every second of the day , every day of the week and every week of the year. Well in the real world we know that's not true.

Again the CWU don't want people starting before their time , they want them to take meal reliefs and they don't want them absorbing if they are forced to work beyond their time. But equally we cannot argue that we want people to finish early either.
Well it would certainly help if those who are nattering had tried pushing or pulling a trolley recently, whichever is the flavour of the month, for a couple of weeks. I assume you are referring to yourself when you make allusion to a General which brings me in mind of the Somme - so easy to presume but so difficult to justify.

Do I believe that London consider themselves a special case - yes and many more think so too.

If the CWU were truly concerned about people starting early, going without meals, not using the proscribed equipment, not booking overtime because they are concerned about not having a contract renewed, extended, made permanent ........then why not have a word with their partners to ensure that those things are carried out? You CWU wallahs spout rhetoric without ever addressing the problems.

There will be New PDAs in the next 6 months which will be far advance of what we have and they will record actual finish times , attendance calls ,the route of each opg , the time spent of first time delivery and number of other things.
1.Is there a list for these 20 offices?

2. So now for the rest of us it will take at least 6 months just to get the new PDA'S and then it's gather information and then it's work out a plan

3. Can an office volunteer to be added to the initial 20 that are happening now, because by god ours needs sorting out now, not in a year or three and I'm sure there are plenty of other offices that are in the same boat.

We were told at a meeting at Celtic Park last monday that we were at least 18 months away from any national rollout of new PDA technology and that a decision on what model or its capabilities had not even been taken yet. I think someone is jumping the gun or the Deputy Chief Operations Officer is telling porkies but that's doubtful.

If they do roll these "smart" PDAs out wouldn't it make sense to give London first go? You guys seemingly have all those specials to deliver.....

And by the way Motherwell is a shithole to work in, I should know, I've worked there but if you go into any place looking for a certain kind of answer you'll find it.

Why did they pick two places in Scotland covered by the same Area Rep and only about 10 miles apart?

Equally some offices in the South and Even London have offices who have high eps.

Now clash London introduced the Pay and Mod agreement in full , it was what Royal Mail took executive action on during the dispute in 2009.

Fish I believe its easy to suggest something like bring in the industrial engineers and drop everyone who is 95 and above down as they are all being bullied etc ? Where is the evidence everyone is being asked to go to Morherwell where they are at 130 EP and according to those that go still absorb and are happy and free from bullying.

I am no fan of EP as I believe it is a flawed measurement scheme. Royal Mail are moving more to items per work hour as it's what the regulator judges them on and they have appointed a manager to oversee the performance of those who are in the bottom 100.

Now as Royal Mail is footsie 100 company it might seem popular on here to call for for what you have but it is an unrealistic call.

yes you do have to do a delivery to know whats going on in the real world, all this other stuff you say you do is is computer nonsense & the last time i checked a delivery is not done by a computer! Example- i knock a door, wait 2 minutes,no answer, i fill out a 739 card(another 2 minutes) i walk down the road only to be called back & then have to re-scan the item, get a signature & dead walk back to where i was! can you please tell me how long this has taken? and what if this happens 5 times in one day? What has the computer got to say about that?

Pda's counting attendance calls? thats funny as 75% of the doors i knock dont require a signature or scan as they are 1st or 2nd class normal packets! So will those packets just be ignored?

Pda's recording finish times? Will this be the last letter or will it include traveling back to office & filling in log book, handing in packets, doing any knock downs you have brought back, endorsing any flats or delivery points with no access? All this is work too.

On a serious note i think it would do all senior management & div reps & high cwu figures good to do a few deliveries with us too see what it is like doing the job and not looking at spreadsheets or pretty graphs, it always baffles me how a company so big lets people plan how the job will be done, decide how long it takes & they dont even do the job  ,

I have seen the 100 offices and there were none in Scotland , 1 in the North East , a few in the North West including Liverpool South , a fair few in the Midlands including Covertry, a lot in the Luton , Stevenage Area and Watford areas , a fair few in the London area all be in the revisions may take some offices out of it , a lot in the Essex area and a few in the West.

But remember once these offices improve other offices drop into the. 100.

Fish I was at the presentation in Bournenouth last week by the project team and their timeline was within 6 to 8 months the new PDAs , their arguement was with the competitive market Royal Mail could not wait in getting tracking of their parcels on route.

I will find out who is correct.

Hatful in the real world Royal Mail are losing both revenue and to its rival end to end cherry picker. In Manchester 5 million items has been lost even more in London.

Amazon has in one swoop dented the growth in parcels.

Areas and regions in Royal Mail are not Islands. The remote areas in Uk recieve a postal service and jobs are protected when it is not necessary financially viable because the bigger cities revenue allows for cross subsidy. Royal Mail due to the TNT threat are losing that Mail and instead of Amazon parcels allowing Royal Mail to get alternative revenue they are now doing the delivery themselves.

Now clearly in your office you must work every minute of the day. But that is not the case everywhere as we all agree that Autumn pressure does not mean that every office flexes up.

Now your question of PDAs they send a ping every 90 seconds of the PDAs longitude and latitude and in the 20 offices which were part of the trial the DOM and DSM can see every postmen on route where they stop , which route they go , whether they have delivered to neighbour , how long they have been in a block of flats and the time they finished. For these 20 units the PDA was turned to a 30 second heart beat.

So having looked at the PDAs in action It is revealing and somewhat worrying that the level of information it actually gives.

It might be worrying for many offices dingo but for the majority of offices it won't be. Now the real question is what is the CWU and RM doing about work hours not recorded, meal reliefs not taken, overtime not claimed, proscribed equipment not used, early starting - the things that a union SHOULD concern itself about seems more concerned about the position RM finds itself in. Protecting full time jobs is all about rectifying those problems dingo not being involved in trying to screw over the members.

Dvbuk the union has campaigned on those for years. Maybe the PDA will finally stop the praticse of starting early in most cases to finish early.

The union has dignity and respect agreement which should stop people from working past their finishing time without being paid and the PDA will confirm when they have.

Dvbuk the 20 trail offices included 2 in the North East and guess what it showed people finishing before their end of duty time .

Oh and let's tAlk about the fact that the CWU are very close legally in winning for part times including back pay the times when they are on leave when the their hours drop from what they are working when they are in work. So slag of the union but without it these things would not happen.

Yet again the fact you ignore is that we have lost many many full timers & they have been replaced by 20 hour bag carriers who need their walk fully prepping by us! so we dont get out the door on the planned time! nowhere near it! You cannot possibly see this as you are not there!

Plus you didnt answer my question, you say in trials the pda's showed ealry finishing but was this last letter or did it include traveling back to office & filling in log book, handing in packets, doing any knock downs you have brought back, endorsing any flats or delivery points with no access? All this is work too. how can a pda track this when the person is back at the office & has handed the pda back in before doing some of this 'work'?

You keep banging on about working every second of everyday, i doubt any job in the country this happens including yours , im pretty sure nearly all of us posties work dammed hard.

And no parcels have not dropped off, even with amazon loss parcels are still increasing all the time, even with the loss of mail it has been more than replaced by door to door workload having 6 & 7 per week & these take more time to prep than the mail we have lost! Like i said, if you do not do the job day in day out you could never fully understand how different everyday is on a delivery!

Now you kind of hinted i am not in the real world, i can assure you i am in the real world as its not me everyone on here disagrees with, its you! :silenced
