How many posties are in the union? How many of them could afford to send £1/week to the union which could pool the contributions and buy shares. (Said shares could either be the property of the union, or the contributing members. In the later case optionally with the union listed as the proxy for voting at AGMs and such like.) Reinvest any dividends that come along in more shares and sooner or later (okay, probably later) the Royal Mail is a wholly -owned subsidiary of the CWU!

Don't laugh but there's also Unite, who represents CWU managers.

It's possible. Not the most likely of outcomes, sure, but set up a non-profit trust, try to find a friendly billionaire to help swing a loan.... I'd hope someone at CWU headquarters has gone beyond the "scribbling figures on the back of an envelope" phase on this.

i worked out that 150000 workers could buy £20k of shares which totals £3b. so if we all chip in 20k we can buy the lot and get moya to fcku

How did you work that out?

If there is 150000 employees, shares are £1.50 a pop say.

Every postie buys £15 worth, 10 shares so that's 1.5 m shares - £2 million quid.

That's what 0.1% of shares gone if value of rm is £2bn.

So £150 worth of shares for 150000 posties is 1% of rm shares. £20million

Along with our free 10% stake that's 11% £220 million

39% to go.

If we can buy 50% of share, we will be controlling the company. I believe the shares are under valued and it would be good investment. Remember Royal mail has assets in terms of land and properties worth of 2bn or so.
