Hello

Post by catnap »

Hello all!

I'm a customer with a micro-biz (my sole income) with a turnover of £12k of which £2k is spent on postage.

My average order value is less than £15 and, although I offer a full range of delivery options (2nd-class, 1st, SD Next Day and courier), naturally the vast majority go for 2nd-class as an acceptable proportion of their order value. I doubt Home Delivery Network etc could provide a viable alternative for a couple of quid per package, so RM's survival is of great importance to me.

:Boo hoo! My personal circumstances, and those of my customers, have me fairly well trapped in this occupation and level of sales (somewhat insincere gratitude to New Labour's New Deal programme for the £250 startup grant, with zero follow-up). OK, I'm surviving, but you'll appreciate that the public's loss of confidence thanks to media reports can have a major effect. Thankfully, this week's order levels have been more normal, but I hope that won't be a signal for future industrial action to produce more severe disruption. Else it will be back to making £50 per week, or less

Anyway, those are my problems. Best of luck in solving yours!

HI Catnap and welcome to the site. Please believe us when we say we do not want to hurt our customers, and particularly ones like yourself who rely on us so much. We are fighting not only for the preservation of service levels that will make your small business a going concern for you but particularly for respect in our work and workplace from a management system gone mad. All our rules that we work by and many which are there for our health, safety and welfare are being constantly abused and ignored by those above in the pursuit of profit for people who need it far less than you or I. Have faith in us and we will repay that faith with a service that will keep you solvent and happy, but while we are being treated as we are at the moment I see no resolving of this dispute.

Good luck and talk to your postie when you get the chance - he or she does care about you, Royal Mail cares about neither of you.
We wish to serve - but we will not be servile

Thanks for the welcome. I know my postie cares about me - we were at school together! One of her concerns is whether her bike is taken away.

I also know the B&H that can go on when you get management with their own set of what might be arbitrary-sounding targets.

The RM website advises to not send non-urgent mail during periods of industrial action. If I ignore that, does it help send a signal to management?
