Royal Mail have announced that they are to merge the Royal Mail and Parcelforce delivery networks into a single platform from the 11th of August 2025. We think this is the start of the end for the Parcelforce brand.

This makes one hell of a lot of sense, it means that they can have a single truck delivering parcels to your house, regardless whether it’s a Royal Mail Tracked24 parcel or a 30kg box being delivered by Parcelforce – they can both come out at the same time on the same van.

Royal Mail have said that the terms and conditions and supporting contractual documents for Royal Mail and Parcelforce Worldwide products and services will be merged and cobranded to support this change.

It really doesn’t make much sense for the company to maintain two delivery networks and there are certainly cost saving to be had by merging the two delivery networks. Longer term, expect the Parcelforce brand to quietly disappear as it becomes ever less relevant.

A longer term worry would be that merging Royal Mail and Parcelforce is a first step towards separating the entire parcels business from letters. This would enable Royal Mail to start justifying much higher stamp price increases for their ever declining letter volumes. If all your Tracked parcels and old Parcelforce deliveries are neatly segregated into a Royal Mail parcels division, a letters division for just the USO services would be an ever more expensive drag on the entire business.

Mail centres are now losing their work as parcel force come in and take out the office . Evidently parcel force is a franchise. So are we not actually eroding in time the postie that delivers the packets ? What with now shop and box collections . PF will take more and more in time along with the continued reduction of letters . Will this not eventually see a decline in mail centres and eventually work sent to super hubs ? Especially if they centralise eg Second class parcels/HL or outward ?

Just taken on 4 new drivers at our Parcelforce depot and more being advertised ,
Been told to expect lots more royal mail stuff to come our way .

Collections must be a dying breed then, next quickest way to shed staff by the looks of it. Hopefully the majority of them will seamlessly slide over to delivery. Processing seem to be massively outnumbered by non-driving delivery OPGs too.

Parcel Force depots are thriving and have been for 20 year+ same as all the city DOs that have moved or consolidated.

by investing in Parcelforce depots I mean more staff and Vans which is happening at the moment ,
and in the future bigger depots may be needed if the volume is there so we have been told .

They already do household deliveries , or do you mean letters ,
and where have you got your 6500 figure from , and are you forgetting or do not know that parcelforce has 25% owner drivers .
