No more red sleeves
Heard yesterday that all the red sleeves are being withdrawn from use so very shortly the only sleeves will be the green ones used for specials and the white correx ones.
Should be interesting some nights trying to find enough correx ones with usable doors for doing small packets/Tracked setups. Often we have to remove the doors from them if we have to use them for the mech or for manual letters and flats. I'm hoping that RM don't end up converting any remaining plain yorks into correx ones.
Funnily enough I saw the first cardboard sleeve that I've seen for a while outside of Xmas pressure.

Re: No more red sleeves
I hope they don’t throw them away. The frames they took out of our place are still sitting in the yard all these months later as if waiting to be allowed back in once grownups are in charge again.

They will. Then a few years down the line pay £5m to a consultancy firm to reinvent them.
The machine stops.

Re: No more red sleeves
I have been using red sleeves for Harrier (Free Prints) in favour of the white correx sleeves.
Reason; Using the correx sleeves often results in items bursting out of the York caused by the weight of the envelopes & also the door integrity not being adequate.

They are trash. Wonder how much they have cost? Whatever the price it’s too much.

Re: No more red sleeves
I imagine that like the uniforms the initial outlay would be much cheaper than what it was replacing, then as they break and fail on a daily basis it starts costing the company more and more. We'll have a WTL soon with a patronising video about "treating your correx sleeve like a loved one" rather than admit they aren't fit for purpose

It's known as false economy and RM have been all about that, with anything of value, for a few years now.Kenfandango wrote: ↑16 Apr 2024, 17:32I imagine that like the uniforms the initial outlay would be much cheaper than what it was replacing, then as they break and fail on a daily basis it starts costing the company more and more. Re: No more red sleeves
I'm sure there was an article when they first appeared showing the team of agency staff employed somewhere who's sole job was to repair and make them so it's probably already cost a fortune more than the red ones did.Kenfandango wrote: ↑16 Apr 2024, 17:32I imagine that like the uniforms the initial outlay would be much cheaper than what it was replacing, then as they break and fail on a daily basis it starts costing the company more and more. That’s so ridiculous. They are expert at spaffing money up the wall. You don’t expect it in a private company.ted_e_bear wrote: ↑16 Apr 2024, 18:36I'm sure there was an article when they first appeared showing the team of agency staff employed somewhere who's sole job was to repair and make them so it's probably already cost a fortune more than the red ones did.Kenfandango wrote: ↑16 Apr 2024, 17:32I imagine that like the uniforms the initial outlay would be much cheaper than what it was replacing, then as they break and fail on a daily basis it starts costing the company more and more. Oh gawd. How much time has been wasted simply servicing the white nonsense?!ted_e_bear wrote: ↑16 Apr 2024, 21:10I've just had a search and found this thread I was nearly correctBarnacle wrote: ↑16 Apr 2024, 20:23That’s so ridiculous. Re: No more red sleeves
there are 3 shifts making these crappy ideas of york sides??
6am-2pm
2pm-10pm
10pm-6am
approx 10 ppl per shift so at a guess somewhere in the region of £2500- £3000 a week in wages
the night sift also carries a night premium.
if the arnt enough staff on a shift they bring in agency on a bigger wage
plus all the outlay for the cutting machines
weve told em the screws that hold the sides on (at the top) need washers as the sides burst of too easily
we told em there not for trays but they dont listen.
we sick of getting static shocks of em
the door is a crap idea....sticky velcro that comes of too easy
thats a few things wrong with em

Re: No more red sleeves
This was a recent post on workplace;
350 Broken Correx Sleeves on our platform & another 200+ in our Mail Centre. So there is appox 550 York's out of action. It's causing Health & Safety & poor 5S issues. Plus it's causing storage issues. And 1000's of broken sleeves in the National system.
What are we doing about these Correx Sleeves Nationally?

This is the type of waste you expect to find in somewhere like the council, not a private company with an eye on profits

Re: No more red sleeves
And so much for Royal Mail's commitment to become "net zero". The increase in plastic waste these undurable white sleeves will end up producing is shocking. I bet they're not declaing that in their calculations of their green credentials.
