I think some high volumes offices will have parcel relief drives Wed to Sat depending on the parcel traffic in the area.
You will definitely need them.
No, we cover a big patch - 11 miles from the office to our farthest DP. Loads of DPs have massive driveways, gated houses, distance between DPs, plus steep hills! Most walks have over 800 DPs (my rough calcs in head now), though the rurals prob only have half this amount, if that — one of our rural duties has a quarter of that (approx 200 DPs) and is the prized duty.Thommo44 wrote: ↑20 Feb 2025, 20:45Maybe your rounds are smaller, driveways shorter ? At our place, even double mail on a walk, plus all the tracked, specials, boxes, and customer collects, is expected to be fully cleared within an eight-hour shift, though you might be allowed just to do that for your whole day’s work if it is a proper rotter and the managers can clearly see it is. How can the 40-hr posties at your office not be clearing even a single walk? Our gaffer would be all over it like a rash and anyone consistently falling short would be out the door. And it is the norm not just at my own DO — it happens at the other offices in our region too.Londonsburning wrote: ↑19 Feb 2025, 17:07That ain't "the norm" for walks in any DO yet and hasn't ever been, maybe for backshift DPR dutiesSmoothbackground wrote: ↑19 Feb 2025, 16:55That magic number — the six-hour del span — has been the norm for 40-hr contract new starters at ours since I started. The theory, or so we are told, is 20% of our working time indoors prepping, 80% outdoors delivering.
We have people doing the best part of two whole walks a day — they go out in the morning as part of a van share, and then on returning to the office in the afternoon to drop their partner back, they then go back out on their own with another walk/lapsing/cut-offs to take them up to their own finish time.
It's actually 3 taking care of the 4 duties but I really wouldn't let that have any influence on your decision to take that job.postiewhite wrote: ↑20 Feb 2025, 23:33One reason why I'm leaving and waiting for a start date in my new job. I would have thought there would have to be a re pick.
At present you can have 4 van share duties covered by 4 people, under the new way of working only 2 people would cover the 4 duties so 2 people would automatically lose their duty. How would you decide which 2 keep their duties and which 2 lose their duties? You would also have new driving duties delivering first class/parcels on the walks not being delivered that day that would have to be filled. There is also talk of new attendance patterns. Even if the walks themselves don’t change so much else will that I can’t see how it wouldn’t constitute major change and lead to a re pick.
I only can't see how this saves money unless the 2 that come off the duty also leave the company
Create 2 duties for them to rotate between that meet their needs?
I think what I meant is that two will be covering 4 duties by foot (whilst the 3rd person covers the 1C and tracked on the duty the other two aren't walking that day.ted_e_bear wrote: ↑21 Feb 2025, 08:23It's actually 3 taking care of the 4 duties but I really wouldn't let that have any influence on your decision to take that job.postiewhite wrote: ↑20 Feb 2025, 23:33One reason why I'm leaving and waiting for a start date in my new job. That's correct, well close enough, on one day two posties will be doing two duties in their entirety like now whilst the third does the "important" stuff from the other two duties, the following day they swap over and so on so in effect it's three people in charge of four duties.postiewhite wrote: ↑21 Feb 2025, 14:44I think what I meant is that two will be covering 4 duties by foot (whilst the 3rd person covers the 1C and tracked on the duty the other two aren't walking that day.ted_e_bear wrote: ↑21 Feb 2025, 08:23It's actually 3 taking care of the 4 duties but I really wouldn't let that have any influence on your decision to take that job.postiewhite wrote: ↑20 Feb 2025, 23:33One reason why I'm leaving and waiting for a start date in my new job. So would I be correct in saying that some fairly lower senior people who would normally get a duty in any repicks could end up being a reserve? My calculations are pretty poor but out of 4 duties that are being covered right now then 1 would get booted off as there will be 3 bodies to 4 duties which would create a higher percentage of reserves/cover people and less duty holders?ted_e_bear wrote: ↑21 Feb 2025, 16:54That's correct, well close enough, on one day two posties will be doing two duties in their entirety like now whilst the third does the "important" stuff from the other two duties, the following day they swap over and so on so in effect it's three people in charge of four duties.postiewhite wrote: ↑21 Feb 2025, 14:44I think what I meant is that two will be covering 4 duties by foot (whilst the 3rd person covers the 1C and tracked on the duty the other two aren't walking that day.ted_e_bear wrote: ↑21 Feb 2025, 08:23It's actually 3 taking care of the 4 duties but I really wouldn't let that have any influence on your decision to take that job.postiewhite wrote: ↑20 Feb 2025, 23:33One reason why I'm leaving and waiting for a start date in my new job. I'd add though unless one of them is a non driver then I think the idea is you rotate who does the driving on the days when it's parcels etc for two duties, perhaps that will be built into whatever duty structure rotations they dream up.
Get what you're saying but doesn't creating more walks counteract the savings RM are going for?scotchy1962 wrote: ↑21 Feb 2025, 19:14Why on earth would making duties smaller not make any sense? Are you a delivery postie and do you work in another country or parallel universe.
To achieve the new USO they really need to shrink the duties in my office, we can't cope at the moment and won't cope in the future with two duties of double mail minimum for two guys.
Never mind the small packets.
Does all offices have to be changed to Delivery 2.0?Martin Walsh wrote: ↑21 Feb 2025, 19:54The correct theory is that 3 individuals cover 4 walks Monday to Friday. The CDV pairing will deliver all mail including 1st class, parcels and non priority to two walks.
The singleton van driver will deliver 1st class letters , parcels and tracked to the other 2 walks.
They rotate this pattern Monday to Friday.
On Saturday 2 singleton van routes cover 4 walks delivering 1st class , parcels and tracked.
The above is not applicable to rural duties or Firms only routes who will deliver as normal Monday to Friday. However on a Saturday will only deliver 1st class and parcels which may given rural and firms routes the opportunity to work less Saturdays.
How will this be made possible when the duties are already unachievable at a lower call rate without making the duties smaller than they are nowMartin Walsh wrote: ↑21 Feb 2025, 19:54The correct theory is that 3 individuals cover 4 walks Monday to Friday.
