Some strange variations exist. The 19-year-old non-driving son of a longstanding employee at ours has very recently been taken on for an HCT duty but on the proviso he passes his driving test within 18 months. Nice lad who deserves a chance, so nothing personal, but why are exceptions unilaterally made depending on who you are?SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑20 Jul 2024, 21:19You might get moved to another office (DO or MC) if there's no none-driving duties available in your DO

Is it the case that your office is struggling to recruit/retain, good luck to the lad if he makes a go of it he'll be earning a decent wage.Smoothbackground wrote: ↑21 Jul 2024, 04:44Some strange variations exist. Is he on a trial/temp contract that's due to expire in 18 months? If so it's possible that it won't be renewed if he can't drive for RM in 18 months timeSmoothbackground wrote: ↑21 Jul 2024, 04:44Some strange variations exist. Re: Best way to get off driving duties?
More a case of struggling to retain staff, I think, rather than recruiting them. Those who leave say it’s not the job itself, it’s the politics in the office and the inability to book leave at short notice or for periods less than a week. EDIT: Oh, and doing two walks a day tips some over the edge and towards the door!ted_e_bear wrote: ↑21 Jul 2024, 08:53Is it the case that your office is struggling to recruit/retain, good luck to the lad if he makes a go of it he'll be earning a decent wage.Smoothbackground wrote: ↑21 Jul 2024, 04:44Some strange variations exist. I hadn’t thought of it being a temp contract, but I reckon you must be right about it being only an 18-month contract, hence him saying he has 18 months to learn to drive. As I say, best of luck to him. I just wish the same opportunity were given to others in a similar predicament.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑21 Jul 2024, 11:13Is he on a trial/temp contract that's due to expire in 18 months? Re: Best way to get off driving duties?
I suspect because RM are that s**t at everything including anything remotely administrative that he'll be on whatever the standard contract is so even if he doesn't pass his test nothing will happen, I'm possibly wrong but you never know, I agree best of luck to him, of course I don't know where you work but going by your previous posts your office attracts the enhanced rate of pay so for an unskilled young person just under £15 ph is great.Smoothbackground wrote: ↑21 Jul 2024, 17:21I hadn’t thought of it being a temp contract, but I reckon you must be right about it being only an 18-month contract, hence him saying he has 18 months to learn to drive.
