Why can't the CWU push for every postie to agree a new way of working with Royal Mail in terms of flexibility, with each postie agreeing the set hours they want to work, with flexibility built in.

I'd happily go from the 5 day week I am currently working (no overtime) to a 3 or 4 day week but with an agreement to do up to an hour worth of overtime on my own round during those 3 or 4 days if it is needed.

I feel this would be beneficial to both Royal Mail and posties. Much more flexibility to allow duties to be completed with posties working less days.
I'd like to know the manager that could possibly cope with all the permutations of a system like that!

Yes, the train is moving in the opposite direction. They want people to be on the same hours and shift patterns. Makes it easier to plan.

To get more Saturdays off we will have to work longer hours on the other days we work, not something I particularly want to do
Imagine the hours for a 40 hour contract...

Could be doing a 10 hour day on a 4 day week..... F that!

If the time is spread across the alternating 5 day week / 4 day week, the 40 hour contract workers will be doing an 8 hour 52 minute day every day....

Enjoy!..... and the CWU talk about fatigue....yet this is what they want!

What will happen to posties like me who went down to part time , i do a Monday to Wendesday for 4 weeks then the next 4 weeks i do Thursday to Saturday. Asked the union rep and he said i maybe doing a 11 hour day twice a week, but i think he has not really got a clue and is just guessing .
11 hour day lol. Won’t happen
what’s wrong with 11 hour days? loads of people work 11-12 hour days. 4-5 hours inside a break and 6-7 hours out.
Really....what at royal mail as a delivery post person ?
610- 1730 yeah why not? it’s couple hours ips OT in morning then going 45mins over on delivery isn’t unheard of.
When are you starting your delivery on these hours?
around 1030 or 11. like a said the geo route planner made our rounds to max out at 6 hours. since then had at least 120 calls added and they get the most parcels. so on heavy days deliveries are over 6 hours easy. which is why people have to prioritise specials, tracked, nhs letters and then do what they can of the mail.
figured this uso change is possible if before they make 3 people do 4 rounds they make all the rounds smaller by putting some rounds back in. so it’s pointless as far as i can see in our office.
sure it could save hours in a big office with lots of van shares but can not see it being good in a office doing mostly rurals.

I don't mean I want to go from a 5 day working week to a 3 or 4 day working week and do the same weekly hours = long days....

I want to reduce my weekly hours and number of days I work, but do a maximum of 1 hour of overtime per day to help get my duty clear.

The job doesn't make sense. We have set hours, but the business needs flexibility as our duties take different amounts of time to complete each day. Isn't it time to build more flexibility into the way we work?

Will the 2C be sent in separate trays to DOs? It now gets sent in separate trays between the outward and inward MCs but them trays are on the same yorks as the 1C trays ?

Will any DSA be delivered on non-2C days or is it just DSA economy that won't be delivered? We've no way to tell the difference unless the DSA companies change their logo on the mail items for DSA economy items?

If a delivery point has got a 2C item due as well as a 1C item due for a non-2C day, will the DTS system be releasing the 2C item? All we know is that we'll be sequencing whatever gets released by the DTS.

We're still waiting to hear what they'll have us do on days when there's physically too much mail to run through the machines. Will RM have the odd day when they have the system release absolutely everything to clear any backlogs?

At this stage, if you exclude any forum members, only DOs have any idea about what will be happening. Apart from 1C and 2C being sorted separately in outward MCs, we in MCs have basically been told f**k all about what is happening.

Any changes to the programming of iLSMs, IMPs and CSS probably get rolled out nationwide, not just MCs in pilot areas

Do you know how many MCs there are?

Spacepheonix is just spouting his usual jargon filled nonsense. Because if you've not been a manager at an MC for the last 20 years you wouldn't know...

AFAIK changes to the programming get done remotely. For the CSS even batch updates get done remotely.

Any other trial offices layout being completely changed ? Are whole office is being moved about, instead of drop bags we are mow going to have little cages for small packets. Not sure the thinking behind that as we cannot remove them during sorting like we do with the bags .

They keep telling us there is now
Scope to make people up to full time. I fail to see how this whole process is supposed to be about saving money yet they are throwing money at turning the office upside down and upgrading contacts. Madness what they are doing.

Nearly every duty is being changed with some rurals being completely changed meaning the duty holder needs retrained and the entirety of the ips frames also changing. Guys who have sorted for 30 years are now basically new starts

Many offices stopped using drop bags over a decade ago. You'll find that in the midst of these trials they will take the chance to alter a whole lot of things.
