They say we're young and we don't know,
we won't find out until we grow.
Well, I don't know if all that's true,
'cause you got me, and baby, I got you.

Babe,
I got you babe,
I got you babe.
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.

Anybody at my office who isnt on a new contract gets a weekly supplement.. for door to doors even if there's none one week and maybe 2 the next..
They actually receive the supplement for sorting IPS, prepping and delivering duties mail, parcels and d2ds,basically for working in a delivery office, it's not just for d2ds that's not true but it seems to be a royal mail myth that refuses to disappear. The delivery supplement was introduced the same time as d2d payments finished, afaik part of the delivery supplement was financed by removing the d2d payment so that's where the thinking came from.
Yes we had to agree to lose d2d payments as part of whatever 'deal' we signed all those years ago I remember making an extra £130 a week sometimes and that was 15 years ago
Do you remember when we used to be able to save them up as well, cash them in at either Xmas or the summer? Paid for a couple of good holidays back then

D2D payments ended and delivery supplements came in, dress it up how u want but it’s a D2D payment by any other name but I will say those on new contracts applied for a job and got a job, what that job asks you to do isn’t your business tbh even if that’s doing an entire week of only D2Ds. Common sense wld tell anyone to claim OT for doing them and offset the delivery supplement. The arrogance of new starts to want to decide what their job role is post accepting that job role is mind boggling

The country is going back to the 70s, when higher paid workers would go on strike to maintain "differentials", that is when lower paid workers received a pay rise, better paid workers would then demand a pay rise to maintain "differentials"

The noises coming out of the union are all about new contracts being made better.
Anyone on a legacy contract will be lucky to see 2% next year to pay for any gains made for new starters.
It's time we accepted what this company is about, and either suck it up or leave.
It really is that simple.

I personally think we will see a sliding scale to the pay deal when it arrives.
The older contract getting 1 to 2 percent and the new contract getting 3 to 4 so as to slowly start to close the gap over a few years.
But that said it’s what we will need to give up for it is the issue as really we’ve pretty much given everything away now

I’d like to see them address the fact the real savings are at management levels.
The office I’m based in is supposed to be run buy two mangers we have 3 to 4 and a doms assistant

You really only need 1 manager per office (per shift in MCs). RM should bring in Team Leaders which most other big firms in various industries probably have used for years

Yes. One COM/DOM per 100/150 OPG duties max. Team leaders for every 50 OPGs earning a quid an hour extra but still taking a walk out each shift.

I think the new pay deal will be tied to the USO.
reforming the USO will pay for the payrise.
Union want to drop saturdays to Packets/parcels only.
The board and the new owner Daniel Kretinsky want 3 day letters for each duty a week.
Royal Mail might not budge on the new contracts by much.
They'll just use the USO changes to offer VR to all the older staff then replace them on the cheap.
Also royal mail have another excuse to keep the wages low. The National Insurance going up for employers.

By the same token, I find mind boggling the arrogant and self-entitled approach of a small proportion of legacy employees who believe they have a meal ticket just because of years of service. It tends to be those with roughly 20 or so years of service who fall into this category.

We have one such postie who purposely puts all his D2Ds out on the afternoon before his day off thereby ensuring his day-off cover (a new starter) delivers the vast majority for him the next day. He cuts off every day of the week, even on quiet January days. The first 30 minutes of the day-off cover is always spent putting putting yesterday’s cut-offs back in the frame! Somehow lazy postie has time to throw off his D2Ds for the day-off man though. He has a massive strop anytime his walk isn’t covered on a day off. There are at least 10 others like this in my office.

This def doesn’t apply to all. We have an older gent, 42 years in the job, heavy walk, always a ton of packets, who makes a point of leaving an empty frame for his day-off cover and even invites phone calls (walk has a longish road with named houses that are really confusing and badly signposted).

Surely after a week or two of a full frame of households you would just take the mail addresses and nothing more unless you are clearing the walk in which case claim the OT accordingly

Yh someone tried that with me, I took all but one column back out and left them neatly staked for them to put back in when they were back.

I’d agree that for some reason also older employees seem to think that the end of the gravy train doesn’t apply 2 them, sit on the same runs, know who to whinge to behind the scenes but tbh the business is on track to end up exactly as I said it wld b4 the last round of strikes decent posties all f****d off to pastures new to be replaced in the main by work shy snowflakes (apologies to the newer starts who don’t fall into this category but you will have left soon anyway)

I hope you marked them appropriately where they must be prepped back and delivered lol

24 years on and the same inanity is repeated again and again.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.
