We didn’t have a revision last year. Been told they want it in early as possible next year.

On the last revision they made a few walks so big they don’t get finished and they leave mail in the frame rotating or 2 people are sent out on them I’m just waiting for all the deliveries to be like this if you’ve no chance of finishing why bring back 1 bag make it 2 or 3

Management are not going to reduce the size of duties when posties are;
a) coming in early to get ahead
b) working through their break
c) rushing round and cutting corners
d) not doing van checks/following h&s
e) going over their time to complete

If you want to see change then stand together and start doing the job by the book. Yes it will snowball but that’s their problem not ours!

They want every office to have a revision so this will be happening everywhere. 20 duties to go in our office including 18 walks. They intend to pretty much get rid of all S/A too. They are putting in 7 packet delivery duties. Remaining deliveries will lose their large parcels but have to “absorb” the 18 walks. We currently have about 90 walks so I think it will roughly work out as a van share partnership having the equivalent of half a walk added to their two duties.

When u say absorb I’m guessing they will put it on your frame so u have to say sorry boss I’m not going to complete today rather than saying sorry boss no time to absorb today?

Hi everyone! I work in a small DO with only 9 duties: 5 rurals and 4 town HCT walks. We have had lapsing all year, okay i summer it's not too bad, but on average we get just over 80 delivery points on our lapsing. We are expected to take it, we sometimes fail loops on our own duties, but the thing is we all go over our time most days so clearly we have too much work. Anyway, DOM (or COM or whatever they are now) told us this morning that they want to lose and HCT duty (will it be mine I wonder?) and make all of the duties bigger, like I said we go over most days how is this right? And what about the Drive for 35? Seems to me they want us f.timers to jack it in, I would if I could, seriously had enough of this job, gone to the dogs!

Lapsing should be done and the end of duty. After you’ve completed your duty.

Also why don’t you just work till your finish time and take lapsing back

From my experience with rurals there is a different mentality. A just stay out and get it done with no one bringing anything back. It might stem from the fact it helps keep managers away. I try to explain to them that they should feel free to bring it back. But as managers don't see or care the small DO's quickly become chocker and the Post Office start moaning.

Lapsing seems to be the norm everyday wherever I work.


As for getting on better, it goes both way in extremes. There is a closeness with people helping each other out unofficially taking parts of each others duties so one can get away for the weekend. (Though with SISO that's as good as dead) On the other hand there is often lots of moaning and gossiping and when falling out does happen there is no where to move people so it can be very unpleasant.

Overall the lack of management makes it the preferred option for me.

I wish I knew the actual rule on this, I always get told to do lapsing first, even if it's out of your way. (I guess as that way if people leave loops on their own then the office has only part failures, whereas if the whole office left their lapsing then a whole duty could fail)

If they get their way finish times will be when your work is done, for me the most important thing is having that finish time if they want bigger walks then stop van share because all that does is add time to the job. Maybe the posties can collect their mail from boxes dotted around their area with large items taken by parcel vans.
