Package in customs for a week! Please help!

So I sent a parcel from UK to Tanzania on 05/01/2021 via RM international signed and it arrived in Tanzania on 19/01/2021. The tracking said it was released from customs within an hour and then it stated that it was in customs again a few hours later... The tracking now states:

"Your item has been presented to Customs on 19-01-2021 for assessment. More information will be available once the assessment is complete."

What does this mean?? How long should this take?? Is this normal?? Why is it in customs twice?? I'm really confused... It's supposed to be a gift for my boyfriend and it's very sentimental :cry I dont know what to do any more.. any help or advise or info would mean so much to me. Thank you :sad:

I don’t think we could answer these questions for UK customs, let alone another country. But many countries select items at random for extra checks, therefore there is no ‘expected’ timescale for customs clearance.
