is royal mail going to go under
what with the £6billion deficit in our pensions that royal mail have not put into for the last 13 years(robert maxwell eat youre heart out).
and royal mail having to pay back just over £3b a year for the next 10 years..
will this put royal mail into liquidation?
i mean how can the company already running on its bare bones manage to pay back that sort of money..
i cant believe that the royal mail did not pay OUR money into the pension scheme for 13 years.
and personally im cancelling my pension and switching to an independant pension..before the s**t really hits the fan
but can you possibly see this company running when it has this huge "DEBT" to pay back.
or will royal mail become obsolite.or goverment run, minimum wage for everybody.

Nah mate, the bigwigs are twisting facts and figures to suit their own agenda. What's their agenda I hear you cry , why to snaffle up as much as they can from the trough. A trough I may add , that will be full to overflowing thanks to the sweat off our backs that we'll be dropping if these latest rounds of cuts come in.
Time to say enough is enough, methinks.
IN THE UPCOMING BALLOT, SUPPORT YOUR UNION , VOTE YES TO INDUSTRIAL ACTION.

re: RM will never be allowed to go under - political suicide
Regardless of the situation RM will not go under. It would be political suicide for the Government and Leighton threatened such a move 2 years ago with a letter Gordon.
Whilst you may not like Leighton et al. ('cuse the pun) they have in my opinion been acting the best interests of Royalmail. This does not always mean in the best interests of individuals or groups of individuals within the company.
The competition almost exclusively currently rely on RM and will do even if they set up their own delivery network. It is in the interests of customers/competitors/government/regulators to keep the company going, but the set-up of the company will continue to change especially in terms of collections/processing, deliveries will become more automated with fewer posties, but this area is the companies main advantage as you will NOT see orange or yellow posties in approx. 90% of the geography of the UK

The Union have said that it is IMPOSSIBLE for RM to go bust as the shareholder is the Government.
It's a bit like saying we will close all hospitals and schools as they have gone bust,it's never gonna happen.
Although i'm sure the competition/EU will have something to say if we get more handouts,i'm not sure how that would work.
Anyway,RM are just trying to scare us.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Well , I think if it weren't for the fact we have a couple of prawns in charge, who haven't a shred of respect forMargate Postman wrote:im not sure so. u shud think long and hard before you vote yes. maybe if everyone hadnt cut the job up for years we wouldnt be in this position.
working people , the quick finish boys could carry the whole can.
Also , don't forget the £600 lump sum is subject to tax , and is only short term gain , for a working lifetime of pain.

£600 is nowhere near enough..
looking ta the bigger picture theyre giving us a measly £11 per week rise (£600 before tax).for what more door to doors and you can bet if this agreement goes through it will only be a matter of time before we lose that payment altogether.
no more early allowance as we will all be coming in at 6.00 am
also we will be forced to do summer staffing which wont just be for the summer eventually..
and no money next year this £600 is for the next 2 years.
so £11 per week
take away youre door to doors or add 3 more lots of door to doors on top of the 3-4 lots you do
take away youre £10 early allowance
comes to about £35 pay cut every week and s**t loads more work to do..
those who want their £600 little pay deal..be prepared to accept £35 pay cut weekly.
this im alright jack it doesnt bother me i retire soon thanks for the 600 f**k everybody else attitude stinks...
a fair deal would be at least £2500 pay offer.
thats what you will be looking at earning over the next 2 years for doing extra door to doors and everything else..

£600 is not enough money for the utter load of shite i have to do every day. i urge everyone to look at the bigger picture. we are accepting a pay cut. the allowances are going this is indeed for 2 years. where are your mortgage payments going to be in 2 years time. the inflation rate will rise. the new hours mean no little jobs on the side. if you have a partner do they have the means to do more finacially. think and think hard then put the x where it counts.
floating postie.

Alarmist Talk
All of this talk about RM going bust is alarmist talk designed to get people to think about accepting lesser terms and conditions in order to protect their jobs.
The question you have to ask yourself is; would that be a job worth having? Lets say if you have to work overtime that you don't get paid for, if you don't know what your job is going to be from week to week, if managers freely harrass and bully staff in the name of getting the job done. These are all things which are already happening and are set to get worse if the new pay deal goes through.
If we concede the argument that to save our jobs or beat the competition we have accept lesser terms and conditions of service, we will simply bargain our way down to working for the minimum wage. Look at the situation now for a part-time employee; D2D's mean that you work extra hours that you don't get paid for when you are off sick or on holiday. With RM's new plan, this could mean a part time contract, but full-time hours - that is unacceptable.
When you are talking about the RM going bust you are actually talking about the future of a universal mail delivery service in this country -- that is not solely the concern of RM employees, it is everybody's business. Why should the burden of supporting this important service fall unfairly onto one group of workers. And before you say it is about commercial reality and competition, it is the government and regulator (in collusion no doubt with our competitors) who determine that reality.
What would happen if we agreed all the changes and RM made 2 or 3 billions in profit next year? Would we all be applauded for the great success we have made of this company and get a pay rise? Get real. The competition would argue that RM was charging too much its downstream access and demand prices to be lowered. We would go back to square one. We cannot win that way.
The only way to ensure that we have decent terms and conditions and jobs worth doing is to fight for them. As for whether RM goes bust -- whose interest would this serve? The government, which then has to create another service to ensure that all households get a delivery. Our competitors, who are spared the massive investment necessary to set up their own delivery network and make easy profits through downstream access.
I'll worry about my job and I'll let these others worry about Royal Mail.
