A new Amazon UK fulfilment centre (FC) is understood to be opening in north Leicestershire, the second such facility in the county. Reports say that they have have already agreed a deal with the developers for a 500,000 sq ft site at the £700 million East Midlands Gateway which is currently being built on land north of East Midlands Airport.

The new Amazon building apparently will have a footprint of roughly the size of eight full-size football pitches. The building will have two mezzanine floors to provide 1.3m sq ft of space and is expected to be ready by April 2019 and create create up to 3300 jobs. To put that scale into perspective the O2 Arena in London, for instance, sits on a plot of about 1.1 million sq ft.

Both deals are expected to be confirmed over the coming days, once the details have been finalised. Don’t forget, Amazon already has a 1 million sq ft fulfilment centre in Bardon Hill, Coalville making it a big presence and significant employer in the area.

And news of this continued expansion should also hearten merchants who will be pleased to see Amazon has the confidence to further build out their evermore enormous fulfilment network in the UK. And if Amazon is worried about Brexit, and delaying key investments, then it’s not outwardly obvious to observers.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Have your say
How much is the local council bribing Amazon to build its warehouse in Leicester?,,,The Welsh assembly handed Amazon an 8.8 million in a grant for Amazon could build its warehouse in Swansea,,and the Welsh Assembly also spent 3.2 million on building the new road to service the warehouse and called it Amazon way..the new workers will not be permanet employees,,unless they are the bare bones management,,but they will be supplied through an agency on ZERO hours contracts,,
,and this agency is GUARANTEED to screw up the little money the slaves will get and if they complain about being underpaid then they will be offered minimal hours..and the terms and conditions of the Amazon slaves will be horrendous,,such as,,not being allowed to ring in for work,,they MUST attend in person sometimes to be told,,sorry,,,no hours for you today,,or the warehouse suddenly shutting down for maintenance as the incoming orders are dropping off,,so that Amazon do not have to pay its slaves to stand idle,,a good book to read up on is this,,HIRED,,6 months undercover in zero hours Britain by James Bloodworth..its available on Amazon,..Its interesting to note that the Welsh Assembly grant to Amazon to build the Swansea warehouse is much larger than the amount of tax Amazon paid to HMRC last year.
