Hello fellow workers

Post by Stammerking »

Just browsing the internet and have come across this site, hopefully will be beneficial to me as I an having loads of problems due to childcare issues.
Girlfriend works for the NHS as a Midwife and needs to leave for work at 12.30pm so she gets to work for 1pm . This is now a problem due to the late starts and I am having Managers telling me I have had 6 weeks to sort the problem out, would be great to have somebody to help us out with the childcare but we have no relatives anyway near here. At a loss and my union rep is of no use as he has feathered his bed with the Managers.

I will move this thread into the Union room so that a rep can help you.

Put the situation IN WRITING to the DOM.Yes you may of had 6 weeks notice but the deal was only
ratified a couple of weeks ago.Remember the new agreement...

• "Changes in start times should take account, as far as possible, of individual circumstances "

Get hold of your area rep too.And quote the above at all times.

I have written to my Dom informing him of that there will be days that I will need to finished early depending on my partners shifts.Since the start times started I have had to come in early usually about twice a week, which consists of me cutting tipping and sorting for an hour between 5.15am and 6.15am then throwing in my walk for an hour. The rest of the shift consists of me sorting like a man possessed and biking around at an above average speed.
On average I have had to book OT at least twice a week due to me going over on non childcare issue days, then I get grief as they come out with the line that I can do it in my time when I want.
I use a bike for my delivery(unlike the majority of the office who use their own cars) and I have all my bags dropped out ,this often leads to comments of me being awkward from the other line managers and they basically look at me as a pain in the arse.

Will use the quote from above but I can only see trouble and hassle in the near future.

Cheers Rich

Not sure if this will help but I recall new(ish) legislation on employers needing to be flexible where there are children below, I think, 5/6 years. If your child falls into this bracket either you or your girlfriend may be able to use it. If local rep can not help go to your branch for advice they, can always go to the equality department at CWU HQ. M Emerson or even R Ellis's as i think they deal with personel processes. It is so important with cases like yours that the union pursues them NOW as we are about to get into all sorts of trials on different ways of working, so NOW is time to put pressure on. Getting your prolem sorted, or not, could give an indication as to whether a deal can be done on the trials.

Good luck, and stick in.
